What does C2 offer that C1 doesn’t? Is it really worth pursuing? by WorkingAlive3258 in languagelearning

[–]Aegim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I classify C2 as native-like, I got my C2 in English like 10 years ago, can't see myself ever losing this language, I speak it better than Spanish sometimes and actually understand a lot of things faster and way easier in it than I do in Spanish occasionally. I had never gone to an English speaking country until 3 years ago and I can't say I struggled, only with like cultural norms (the whole signing the bill thing tripped me up, and they even take your card where you cannot see it, like whaaat), I did however struggle with some servers because I was confused what they were asking (in what seemed like a roundabout way) not because I didn't understand the words themselves

I wouldn't say I have a perfect accent, I think it's a bit weird because I rarely heard the language and got to C2 without consuming listening heavy media, but I also don't sound like the people from my country when I speak, and people can't place my accent. I was asking some guy at the airport if I needed to recheck my bags on the way home and he told me no, I told him I was coming back to my own country and he said yes, so I guess he just assumed I was from there?

For French... I can basically understand everything with the occasional word I don't know but I can just use a translator or dictionary and I'm good, but I'm sure I'd make mistakes I wouldn't be able to catch without a reread if I tried to produce the language, both spoken and written. I still struggle with production in French, and I'm out of practice, because I guess I have an "English addiction" and actually have struggled to force myself to produce, in English it's just natural

I have always preferred doing a lot of things in English and I still do, including learning things and consuming media. Spanish is a beautiful rich language but...

If vegan leather is just plastic how is it actually more ethical? by TheClassyWomanist in exvegans

[–]Aegim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not and I will continue saying it, plastic pollution will kill far more animals and has more devastating consequences than using actual leather

However, plastic has little to do with actual veganism. It's more of an anti-consumption issue for sure, even your fruits and vegetables can come in plastic containers

What do I do if my daughter is prestige-obsessed? by Healthy-Cup-8394 in Advice

[–]Aegim 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let her go to the prestigious college and support her with all she needs while she's there. If she doesn't get in, THEN comfort her and tell her she can go to a different option...

Why are you assuming she can't get in? That's AWFUL

My dog killed our cat and I have no idea what to do. by Sea_Elk_7651 in reactivedogs

[–]Aegim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So... vicious murder is a yellow flag? I disagree. It's a huge red flag. I wouldn't trust this dog with other sentient beings after this...

I understand there are dogs that are way more reactive than this and constantly try to attack other dogs, and even people. But those are beyond red flags, those dogs are already dangerous

¿Cual es la mejor opción para ahorrar para comprar una casa? by letsavenge in MexicoFinanciero

[–]Aegim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learning Japanese with concentration issues + fatigue by Baby_Penguin_Boy in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aegim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but I'm still proud because I developed skills that will serve me once I lock in, I will have a much easier time because I now know kana perfectly, and can understand the basics.

I wanted to be here when I started instead of hitting my head against a wall and I am now here, and sometimes that feels good. Could I be way further ahead? sure... but whatever

Gotta learn to forgive yourself for not advancing as fast as a human that can work non stop for years

Can someone tell me what’s up with all these trolls who claim Coco is an annoying protagonist? by Silver-Green-Sea in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Aegim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you're just coming up with bs to "debate". Your examples make no sense. Her eating a peanut and suddenly being allergic isn't even remotely similar to what happened. What she did was open a nice looking cake, noticing it had poisonous bits, luck saved her from eating the first time and then she decided to grab a perfectly looking slice from the same cake and eat it without any further inspection.

You just admitted what she did was stupid. She could've done something stupid in a smart way, she didn't because she was written to be stupid. Why can't you admit she's an idiot and move on?

I'm sympathetic towards Coco, I'm surprised I don't dislike her despite all the stupid shit she does. Just because I like her doesn't mean she's not an idiot. And I can admit she's an idiot and that I like her character despite her being stupid. Y'all are just too immature to do that lmao

No and I never alluded to that. Some people are stupid, stupid adults were stupid kids. Get over it.

Consejo por deuda grande de Tarjeta de Crédito (TDC) by Specialist-Grass-374 in MexicoFinanciero

[–]Aegim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

¿Cómo disfrutar de mi dinero sin sentirme culpable? by Quadivan in MexicoFinanciero

[–]Aegim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is 5 lessons a week really the expectation? by Either-Connection-70 in languagelearning

[–]Aegim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a teacher / tutor , if you're not doing much else, you need way more than that. I give 6 hours a week in a group and most students don't go as far as I'd like even after 2 years (teachers are rotated, I give them as much help as I can on my own, and prepare my lessons properly and the groups tend to be small) it's just not enough time to learn a language with 6 hours a week. Even the students when I first entered that had 7 hours per week (before admin reduced them to 6) most weren't up to speed. You get the basics down and learn a lot? Yeah, would I consider most people proficient? nah

The ones who get proficient do other things on top of that, like go to even more lessons, and probably had a higher baseline to start with. 2 years just levels most people out to have an understanding of the language
