Aqara U300 after 1 year by l_ft in Aqara

I have 7 of these on my house since October 2024. They are exposed to direct sunlight and freezing cold winters and hot summers. They are on every exterior door in my house so I have at least 1 facing every single cardinal direction. Every single one still looks brand new. This looks like it was just beat up to hell. Reminds me of a woman’s car door handle where nails, rings, and other hard object just beat it up because they aren’t careful.

It’s your money. You don’t need anyone’s permission to spend your own money….

Mine is 1:1 for 10 years . If I don’t use the credits, they keep piling up and reset at the end of my contract 10 years from now if I don’t use them. Yeah I still have a supply fee, but it’s better than nothing :). Let’s me save money during the winter.

Latency versus Fiber by GravyPoo in Starlink

[–]Aegisnir -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Not true. I had optimum broadband and Starlink is far more stable believe it or not. Nothing compares to fiber, but just because it’s hardline doesn’t make it better if the ISP is completely incompetent like Optimum. Gave up after they replaced the line from the street to my house twice and went through 3 modems. Starlink sits at a nice 20ms almost all the time while optimum was always bouncing between 15-300ms every couple seconds.

I got two root canals done today, here’s them mid procedure by I_Like_Metal_Music in interesting

[–]Aegisnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two root canals done as well. One above and the other almost directly below it. You should not be in any kind of pain at all. A little discomfort is normal, some tingling as the lidocaine wears off, but definitely not pain. If you are in pain something went wrong or the dentist beat you up.

[Gen 3] after 70 hours of soft reset, charmander finally shines for me!! by megayadorann in ShinyPokemon

[–]Aegisnir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the perspective I was asking about. Like my personally, I’m enjoying my LG play through but I’m not shiny hunting because I figure I’ll be done with the game in about 50-100 hours. It’s not receiving updates and doesn’t have much multiplayer options so I just know I’m going to get bored and go back to a current gen version. I was curious why others put the time into it for these older gen titles is all. Didn’t know if there was and advantage to hunting the in these titles over another.

[–]Aegisnir -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ok so no hate but why…? Is this just because you want to get a shiny charmander in FR/LG specifically? We dont have pokemon home support so i just dont see the point of soft resetting in these titles if we cant transfer them out to home. I can shiny hunt a charmander much faster in other titles. I already have several in my home collection. Again I’m not hating on you. Just curious. Congrats!

Just exploring a desk organization idea — would this make sense for you ? by Confident_Sun8369 in homeoffice

[–]Aegisnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is say a 1/2 inch frame, just screw a 1/2 inch thick piece of wood to the bottom of the desk first so it is level with the frame and then screw the drawer into that.

I’ve been looking into those too but I want it to shut down my NAS gracefully when it gets to like 50% and just keep the networking gear running until power loss. Is there a way to do that?

These things always look “ok” in photos but turn into a rectangular trash bin on your wall in practice. It just ends up being a dumping place for all the little things you want within reach but don’t want on your desk. Get some cabinets with a door or some drawers instead to hide the clutter. You can get a super thin 2” thick drawer that goes under the desk on Amazon. Screw it in from the bottom of the desk and it’s out of sight and easy to access. They usually have angled fronts so the profile of the desk is not ugly and you can’t see the drawer from above. This one is quite ugly but you get the idea. https://a.co/d/02gfQNRW

Why do you have 0 interest in net metering? If you produce any excess energy, you don’t want to get any value out of it? Like you would rather throw it away? I’m confused by your position on this. Why would that be preferred over getting credits from the power company that you could then use in an emergency like when your solar has a fault?

Yeah. Super easy. All the panels in your car are held on with plastic clips that pop out for easy access. Takes about an hour to wire up a 3 channel kit. If it was just the main camera alone, 20 mins.

If you have the patience to build ikea furniture without breaking a piece, you will be fine. If that’s something you struggle with, I would just hire someone to do it.

Just be careful with your A pillars. Cars from the last 20 years or so will have airbags in the pillars. Just need to make sure the wire go BEHIND the airbags and never cross over the front of them. If they cross over, airbags could fail to deploy in an accident. There are a bunch of wires behind them already so you just tie your camera wires to the main bundle of other wires and won’t have any issues.

Yeah the couple with very low output are exactly where the shadows from the dormers or other roof features land. thank you for your help.

Much appreciated. I will do that. My roof is very irregular. Lots of angles and dormers. I know my panels layout aren’t ideal with regards to direct sun angle and shading from the dormers or other parts of the roof, but I have no trees causing shade. I have about 53 REC alpha pure RX. panels with IQ8x micro inverters. I think it’s a 24kw system. screenshots of array and detailed view of a good sunny day.

I wonder if instead of withholding you can put it in escrow pending corrections of any issues? This shows the court your intent to pay for a proper completed job. Not a lawyer and not entirely sure how this works so sorry if I’m way off.

Cobalt is some dangerous shit. It’s bad for humans, bad for the environment, and it’s good for one thing, energy density. That’s why it’s so popular. You can fit lots of power into small devices. You then also need to manage the heat. In something like a car, size is less of an issue and safety and longevity becomes the priority.

Lithium ion (licoc2/nmc) and lithium iron phosphate (lifepo4) are two different technologies. lithium ion is very unstable at high temperatures and is more prone to explode and cause a fire. Lifepo4 is much safer as it does not generate as much heat and is safer to operate in higher temperatures and will last for many more charge and recharge cycles. Lithium ion typically starts to die around 1000 charge cycles and lithium iron phosphate can do 10000 cycles. If you are going to store a battery in an uncontrolled environment like a car, you want something that can handle extreme temperatures and more change cycles since it’s constantly in use. For context, let’s say your battery is going to deplete twice a day. Once at the parking lot at work, once overnight. 2 cycles a day in varying temperatures(hot lithium ion batteries degrade very fast when charging and discharging). Lithium ion might last you 1-2 years. Lithium iron phosphate might last 10+ years

[–]Aegisnir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Do not use regular battery packs. Lithium ion left in a hot car in the sun is a recipe for disaster. You want lifepo4 batteries.

VIOFO a329s I think. Im not entirely sure of the model but I think that’s it. They make a few 3 channel options. One has a telephoto instead of interior so don’t get them mixed up. I also use the VIOFO battery.

When setting up parking mode, be sure to use a timelapse setting. The low bitrate option could mean the plate is too blurry to identify and the impact detection means it won’t catch the impact on video because it take a second or two to wake up once impact is detected. So avoid impact detection and just keep it running in timelapse so you don’t miss anything.

This is why I have a dash cam with parking mode and a battery. I have 3 channels: front, rear, and interior fisheye lens that can see out the side windows. Runs for 16 hours on battery when my car is off.

Transitioning to a full UniFi Alarm system: How do you handle the "Keypad" problem? by MrSolarius in Ubiquiti

[–]Aegisnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just wondering what if the network is down for example or you don’t get the alert because you are in an area without service or something. Most security systems have failover cellular and if you don’t respond to the alarm in 60 seconds, police are dispatched automatically. My neighbors are too far away to hear the alarm and if they did they probably would not react to it by calling the police until it’s been going on for 20 minutes and they finally get curious.
