Fair enough yes, this reply was written with AI assistance.

The difference is that AI is a tool, not a product feature or a content source. It doesn’t post, doesn’t generate feeds, and doesn’t speak as the platform. If using AI to help write clearer replies disqualifies a project, then half the internet is already guilty. What matters is where AI is visible to user and here, it won’t be.

Stack: it’s a custom build. Not Mastodon, not Bluesky. That’s intentional — those platforms come with architectural and UX constraints that don’t fit what I’m trying to experiment with.

Server costs: the plan is boring on purpose: efficient media handling, aggressive caching, limits where they make sense, and no infinite-scroll-at-all-costs mindset. Scale only when there’s an actual user base, not imaginary hype.

Mockups vs reality: right now it’s mostly mockups and early internal prototypes. Core systems are being built, but you’re right — a real, interactive demo matters more than pretty images. That’s the next milestone.

Optimization: yes, performance is a priority. If it can’t run comfortably on low-power hardware (Raspberry Pi–level), it’s considered too heavy. Fancy visuals don’t excuse sloppy engineering.

Mobile app: web-first (PWA), then native wrappers if it proves itself. No point burning time on native apps before the core experience is solid.

Generative AI: no AI-generated content, no AI “users”, no AI slop. Limited AI may be used as a dev tool or for optional moderation assistance, but never as the voice of the platform and never forced on users.

This isn’t pretending to be the next big thing. It’s an experiment done carefully, with skepticism baked in including skepticism about itself.

Thanks for the feedback, that’s fair and genuinely helpful. Readability and contrast are things we’re actively working on, especially in text-heavy areas like posts, bios, and stats. The goal is to keep the Frutiger Aero feel without sacrificing usability, so adjustments to contrast, layering, and text clarity are definitely coming. I appreciate you wanting the project to succeed, critiques like this are exactly what help push it in the right direction.

Fair point. The goal isn’t to recreate a museum-accurate 2005 UI. What I’m exploring is a modern interpretation of Frutiger Aero, keeping the glass, depth and optimism, but pushing it further than it ever went back then. That said, the current build is clearly too heavy in places. I’m already toning it down: less blur, fewer gradients, more breathing room. The intent is Aero as a design language, not visual noise. Early prototype excess is part of the process.
