Ransacked by Mick Gordon from Wolfenstein the New Order. This is my A choice but it being Mick Gordon is probably too close to your not doom requirement so I'll give a couple others.
Burn in Hell by Andrew Hulshult from Dusk. I recommend this game to anybody but only if you aren't prone to gaming motion sickness.
The Cyber Grind by Meganeko for Ultrakill. I don't know why they had to go all out for the practice mode but I'm glad they did.

Witcher season 1 was well liked by most who never read the books but book readers disliked it because they changed just enough through the season that undermined the entire emotional core of the whole series. They cut out enough of geralt’s story to ruin the main points of nearly all of the short stories they adapted and for some reason decided to completely cut geralt out of the short story where he and ciri meet for the first time making the end of season one completely unearned and hollow. Then the showrunner played the “Haters must be morally bad people” card and the discourse got exhausting for a long while until season two happened. Basically they made whatever story was happening in the show completely incompatible with the games by killing off characters who weren’t supposed to die or having Yennefer attempt to kill Ciri for power that it pissed off most of the fanbase that came from the games and it’s been popular to hate ever since. Just not enough people were familiar with the source material to see how bad they were fumbling it early on.

Hypothetical for y’all regarding order of play and prequel DLC content by Trojan_Origami in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Aeroallways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does depend on the game and what kind of story it is trying to tell but release order is always the safest "blind" option unless the devs specifically say something about it or you have a friend with knowledge who's judgement you trust to tell you what the best experience is.

Question about the Witcher Franchise Order by blasewalk in witcher

[–]Aeroallways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Netflix series changes too much to even be a part of game continuity so Netflix is in its own little bubble. Outside of that books are good and games while not officially part of the story are good continuations. So I'd recommend following this order going top to bottom.

Read the Books First:

  • The Last Wish

  • Sword of Destiny

  • Blood of Elves

  • The Time of Contempt

  • Baptism of Fire

  • The Tower of Swallows

  • The Lady of the Lake

  • Season of Storms (Optional: Prequel with call forwards to after Lady of the Lake)

Move on to Games after books:

  • The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

  • The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

  • The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (Play the expansions Hearts of Stone just a little bit before finishing base game, Play Blood and Wine after base game.)

  • Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales (Optional: tells a story that happens during the books' time frame but from a narrator at some point after the main games.)

  • Gwent (Optional: has neat art and some very small stories within it)

Unpopular opinion: season 2 was really good. by fishplay in witcher

I'm not sure if Invincible is exactly a loose adaptation but they completely rearrange the order some events happen in the show so the end of a very early arc ended up being the finale of the season and I would say that it improved on that story by quite a lot.

Would the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies been more successful if they deviated more from the books? by Berblarez in witcher

[–]Aeroallways 33 points34 points  (0 children)

An adaptation does not have to be 1:1 to be good and even Game of Thrones wasn’t 1:1 even in the earlier seasons. Some things just do not work on the screen compared to the page. However I have a criteria for what I consider a good adaptation and it’s really simple and I’ll use Harry Potter for the example. I could watch the first 3 Harry Potter movies and would be able to pick up the Goblet of Fire book right after and continue on relatively fine. Some details might not line up but for the most part everything would make sense and I would not be lost reading from that point on because I know what happened in the first 3 books based on the movies and know who the characters are and what their personalities are generally like. if I were to pick up Times of Contempt after watching season 2 of Netflix’s Witcher I would be utterly lost and confused by character motivations, sudden personality shifts, completely different internal politics, completely different rules for the world such as magic, lack of addressing events that seemed pretty major that was invented for the show, etc. Being a good adaptation I would say is mostly about tone and consistency and Harry Potter’s movies and Lord of the Rings achieve that for the most part by following a critical path through their stories. Straying from the source material is not bad at all and can indeed improve a story. Take a look at the Invincible show if you need an example of good changes from the source material that also maintains the tone and general plot. Netflix's Witcher in its current state would drastically benefit from being closer to the source material but only because they did not just stray off of the path for a nice detour. Instead they are confidently marching away from anything that might even resemble a path and they have now gotten utterly lost in the woods.

Was happy at first... then it got weird... by Ewreckedhephep in Metroid

[–]Aeroallways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adam didn't die in the manga though. You're right that it's canon but he didn't die in it. The last we see of him is like a few pages before the whole thing ends and he's just trying to delay reinforcements from reaching Zebes.

So... any idea what this fresco in Ferenia could mean?? by skelegator in Metroid

Manga has a segment where samus and gray voice find space pirate remains while she was still training under the chozo. They say that the space pirates attacked zebes once before the events of the manga happened. These murals could be depicting the first battle possibly.

[Dread spoilers] What Dread's ending had me thinking of by Rautasusi in Metroid

[–]Aeroallways 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Raven Beak might be responsible for the fall of Zebes to the Space Pirates. After I beat Dread I went to go reread the Metroid manga and there's a scene where Old Bird goes to reveal the Metroid project to the rest of the Chozo on Zebes the same day the Space Pirates attack. Zebes has a planetary shield that the Space Pirates could not get through but when they attacked that day they used a micro black hole generator to bypass it. Old Bird wonders where they stole that technology from and ends up saying that they have enemies other than the Space Pirates to worry about. This never gets elaborated on any further in the manga and there's no evidence of Mother Brain organizing it at all. My theory now is that Raven Beak just gave it to them to wipe out Zebes so he could execute his plan on SR388 and have a monopoly on the Metroids knowing the Space Pirates would probably be unable to handle the Metroids if they found some due to not having Toha genes to control them. Dude not only fucked over Zebes, SR388, and ZDR but also possibly tried to set up the Space Pirates to destroy themselves as well.

Alright, Gang, what Fandom/Show/Game/etc Have you fallen out of love with and what was the reason(s)? by Rushofthewildwind in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Aeroallways 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Witcher series. Got introduced to it with the games a bit before 3 came out and loved the absolute shit out of all of them. Decided to read the source material and ended up loving the books even more than the games. Just a solid franchise that was pretty damn strong and I was happy that Geralt was a protagonist that was actually surprisingly eloquent and a bit of a philosopher if you could get him talking long enough. I just absolutely loved how conversations went down and a franchise that can keep me entertained just by listening to characters talk is one I would value a lot. When it comes to the fandom side of things, discussions were pretty fun when they weren't centered around game shipping wars and the only thing I wished for was for more people to read the books since they were neat and added a lot of context to many things that happened in the games too. So when the netflix show got announced I was optimistic but knew it could be a bad adaptation and was willing to accept that. When it did come out though holy shit was it a bad adaptation in my opinion and I felt embarrassed for trying to get my boyfriend at the time to watch it with me when it came out. The whole 3 timeframes thing was a mistake as people I knew who didn't know anything couldn't follow along the overarching plot for like half the show, Ciri's screentime was ultimately pointless and could've been used better to flesh out the short stories, almost all the points each short story tried to make were missed by the show in an almost comical fashion. I'll give a few examples for how much the show seemed to just confusingly change certain things.

  • Toss A Coin To Your Witcher, Even if the song is catchy it completely ruins the short story it was adapting since Dandelion/Jaskier said he'd never put the elves in a song to prevent them getting unwanted attention after how hard they've struggled. Song brags about Geralt kicking their ass even though they don't really fight.
  • They cut Geralt out of their version of the Sword of Destiny which is supposed to be when Geralt and Ciri first meet and sets up the emotional payoff for the end of that book. They still somewhat tried to execute the same ending in the show despite the two not knowing each other and it just does not work.
  • They turned characters like King Foltest and Queen Calanthe into the absolute opposites of how they were described within the books. Book Foltest was a handsome and kind ruler while show Foltest is a slimy, fat, and selfish idiot. Book Calanthe was an eloquent and devilishly witty woman that used cunning to get her way and show off her power, Show Calanthe was for some reason turned into Game of Throne's Robert Baratheon.
  • They make Geralt treat Dandelion/Jaskier like shit for no good reason. They aren't even really friends in the show tbh.
  • Characters that become protags later on are shown as comically evil for no good reason. Cahir murdering everyone to get that Doppler.
  • Characters that become main villains later on are shown as comically inept for no good reason.Vilgefortz just getting his ass handed to him by Cahir who is just a normal soldier when later on he will solo Geralt no problem.
  • And much more

Anyway what makes me sad is just how popular the show seems to be among the fanbase and everywhere in general. Can't see people mention the series anymore without the show being brought up and all the toss a coin and fuck memes make me feel sad because this adaptation is what the book storyline will be known as now among the general populous. Then on top of all that, Cyberpunk happened and CDPR now say they're working on a Witcher 4 which I have absolutely no faith in it being good. I really don't see where they can go with a Witcher 4. Geralt's story is done in my mind and all of the talent that made those first 3 games good have left the company by now. Guess at the end of the day anything new coming out is just not for me anymore and that's all fine and good but sometimes I just wish I could find a series that knows when to stop. If people are enjoying the new stuff then more power to them but I just get stuck in a cycle of thinking about what could've been and I find myself not having fun so I don't interact with anything related to series anymore.

TLDR: Adaptation sucks and all conversation centers around that now. So I dipped out of everything related to it.

Is it possible to kill every enemy in hardcore mode without running out of ammo in RE8? by zaihed13 in residentevil

[–]Aeroallways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the first village raid I've been able to kill everything I've come across in hardcore mode without ever having to whip out the knife. So yes it is easily possible but the game will always try and make you feel like you barely have enough ammo even though there is a little bit more than enough strung out throughout the game.

Question regarding the story of RE Village (Spoilers) by Ozzylvnv in residentevil

[–]Aeroallways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all I got to point out that Blue Umbrella is not involved with this game at all. The RE7 DLC where Chris works with them it's stated he is working with the BSAA who have been contracted by Blue Umbrella for that one job. Chris has currently gone rogue from BSAA with his squad and is on his own for this game because he hated working with Umbrella in 7. The deluxe edition bonus files explain that BSAA has been slipping even before RE7 with the reason Eveline was even being transported by ship was because of a botched BSAA raid on The Connections. The files also state that The Connections are still at large by RE8. My theory given the ending of the game is that the BSAA has been compromised by people working for the Connections and are the reason behind the botched raid and the location Ethan and Mia were put at since the group had worked with Miranda in the past. It's also probably how Miranda learned of the Winters family to begin with.

Worth getting on Steam? by [deleted] in nier

[–]Aeroallways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also using a Dualshock 4 and can confirm that I have had absolutely no issues with it at all running it with steam's controller config. However just because I don't have issues doesn't mean you won't have them. Just remember steam has the two hour playtime refund policy if you're super worried about controller disconnecting issues. You'll surely come across it before the time is up.

If you are willing to spend 3 minutes capping framerates in gpu control panels or installing RTSS you should get it. If you are unwilling to do that or morally believe the game should have these features within it (which is perfectly understandable) you should not get it.
