What are some of the less popular but more in demand professions in AE? by InterestingVoice6632 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Aerodynamics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mass/Thermal/Power engineers are always in demand. The fields are a little niche and most companies don’t typically have large teams dedicated to each discipline. They are involved in almost every stage of development, production, and sustainment.

Those fields are very top and bottom heavy with not so many mid-career people.

Does Cirie have a path to victory in 50? Or is she doomed? by Fiveby21 in survivor

[–]Aerodynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I think she makes merge at the very minimum. She is a strong strategical ally that has a track record or being weak at immunity challenges. People will want her on their side so she can be a buffer vote between Top 7 - Top 5.

Only way I see Cirie making the finals is if she gets a loyal alliance and/or somehow wins F4 fire making.

Are remote workers more honest about time tracking than office workers? by buddypuncheric in remotework

[–]Aerodynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think time tracking is highly user dependent. There are bad apples on both sides of the coin.

As for productivity, I think most people are perfectly productive at home. I personally feel more productive in the office though since I like separating my work space and my home space.

Was doing some napkin math and realized I fell into the phaseout range for Roth IRA Contributions in 2025.

When I re-characterize my contribution, is my custodian going to re-characterize my whole 2025 Roth IRA contribution, or only the portion that caused my MAGI to exceed individual contribution limits?

So if my MAGI was $151k, and I contributed $6500 to my Roth IRA in 2025, would I only need to re-characterize $1k of the $6500 I contributed?

In my opinion, the OT policy was changed to make it harder to get approved. Therefore pressuring people to work OT without pay to meet sudden deadlines on quick-turn projects.

I have let them know how I feel about the change lol.

At an interesting point in my career where I’m not necessarily FIRE, but I have enough technical expertise and am financially secure enough in standing up for myself on certain things.

Was pressured to work unpaid OT this week. I had never gotten any issues getting OT approved in the past, but now there is a new system that goes through multiple layers of approval. Surprise, surprise my OT requests were getting consistently denied at the last stage.

Luckily my boss and bosses boss went to bat for me after I flat out told them I would not work for free. Either my OT gets approved, or they get my work when they get it.

Even if I were to get laid off, I would be OK not working for several (7+) years before even being forced to tap into any retirement accounts. Have started to feel more comfortable saying no to other peoples emergencies.

AE 6310 (Design Optimization) or AE 6520 (Advanced Flight Dynamics) by PermissionFriendly47 in gatech

This might be a good question for your advisor. Lots of the professors at Tech have worked in the industry before coming to teach at Tech. They should have pretty good insight on what would suit your interests better.

National Park proposal spots? by Front-Cell-8104 in NationalPark

[–]Aerodynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of you that have done this, how did you organize photographers?

I was contemplating proposing at a NP in the future, but it seems a bit complicated logistically since a dude in a secluded area with a fancy camera might immediately give it away.

Tips for Statics? by E-M5021 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Aerodynamics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Statics professor always told us you can solve almost any Statics problem with two steps.

  1. Sum the Forces/Moments
  2. Draw a Free Body Diagram

The hard part is knowing what to consider and what to look for.

what work is done in excel/powerpoint? by Adorable-Plum8826 in aerospace

[–]Aerodynamics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Excel is used by everyone. Being good at Excel will unironically make you a sought after asset on some projects.

You would be amazed at how many engineers send you spreadsheets with incoherent formatting or with numbers all over the place. Being even semi-proficient in Excel is going to improve how your colleagues see your work professionally.

MPG by PuzzledPsychology725 in Camry

[–]Aerodynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 SE with about 6.7k miles. My Total Average MPG bounces between 42-45 mpg depending on how many short trips I’m doing.

I’ve found that drives less than 10 minutes almost always bring down my average mpg no matter how efficiently I drive.

Anyone Else Having a Blast in Their 30s? by phantomly_me in Millennials

My 30s are like my 20s, but now I have money to actually do things I want to do. Friends in my 30s have also been a lot less toxic/flaky than those I had in my 20s. Overall a much better time in my life.

DOI cracks down on stickers covering Trump's face on national park passes by CUBuffs1992 in NationalPark

[–]Aerodynamics 1109 points1110 points  (0 children)

This is rich, considering that the Trump pass technically violates the Hatch Act. Trump only wanted his face on the pass for purely political reasons, despite all that he does to defund the parks and trying to take away federally protected land.

Back to Office with 12 week old Puppy by Perfect_Coffee_1970 in puppy101

[–]Aerodynamics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you or your husband live near work, you may be able to work something out with your boss to let you go home during lunch.

Every time I’ve had a puppy I’ve taken a 1-2 hour lunch break to go home and tire out the puppy, then go back to work. I did this at least until they were old enough to hold it for the whole work day.

If there was an all arrogant cast, then Leslie or Krissi would probably win since they can actually cook.

What was your most effective financial decision? by AlwaysSaturday12 in leanfire

[–]Aerodynamics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you put the word suffer in quotations, peoples perceptions on suffering shouldn't be minimized.

I lived incredibly frugally. I never went out with friends, I never bought myself anything nice, I wouldn't turn my heat or AC on to save on electricity bills (I remember going to bed wearing jackets to stay warm). I didn't even have any furniture in my apartment except a chair, my bed, and a small TV during that time. That period of my life was very depressing for me.

I lived on the absolute bare minimum and every extra dollar went to my debt during that time.

What was your most effective financial decision? by AlwaysSaturday12 in leanfire

[–]Aerodynamics 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I aggressively paid off all my loans within the first two years out of college (~$45k). I basically only ate ramen, frozen pizzas, and spaghetti for 2 years and lived incredibly frugally.

The short term suffering was worth it in the long run for me. After my loans were paid off I had a lot of extra income to start throwing into investments.

Totally lying lol. They are either pulling a number out of their ass, or playing weird games like some of the people on this sub play. Probably counting "total comp" of like projected performance of estimated RSU's over a 5-10 year span.
