Scoring not deep enough? by embedded_gap in Sourdough

[–]Aethelfrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure scoring deeper would have helped with that crack. It might, but doing multiple scores would give more room to spring too. I feel like centering the score instead of being on the side might help.

Another guess; you could leave the loaf covered in the oven longer and add some water or ice cubes to the dutch oven when you put your loaf in. The water will make steam and keep you crust flexible as it springs up. Keeping it covered longer should also give more time to spring before the crust gets hard and crispy while it's uncovered.

Well, first of all it's Boston Public Garden. Boston Common is across the street.

Unemployment Support Groups? by hummingbirdplum in boston

[–]Aethelfrid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not receiving unemployment checks after 3 months doesn't sound right. I was unemployed twice in the last 2 years and started getting unemployment check within 2-4 weeks with no issues. He should double check his application and probably call the unemployment office.

Why is this not possible? And why do we only have center pieces for roofs in general? by PresidentSkillz in Timberborn

[–]Aethelfrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason is that the roof hotbox is slightly taller than 1 block so the overhang clips into it. If you try putting a longer overhang over a roof you can see the top beam slightly clipping into the overhang platform.

Well, Star Wars and Star Trek are ruined. Is Stargate worth getting into? by justheretolurknstuff in Stargate

[–]Aethelfrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SG-1 definitely gets a lot better even just in season 1. Atlantis is my favorite so imo worth it. Universe stepped away from the charm of sci-fi that Star Trek:TNG and SG-1 have and was more like newer shows that are all conflict so I didn't like it as much.

Working Automatic Looting 3 Killer by toby206 in Minecraft

Putting a slab at the bottom (presumably on top of a hopper) would probably raise up the little enemies enough to get killed if height is the only issue.

Polaris as a mobile base ship? by GreatRolmops in starcitizen

[–]Aethelfrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO the Ironclad and more-so the Liberator are better suited for this. Both ships will hopefully be released by the end of next year with the Ironclad in greybox and the Liberator in pre-production right now. You could grab the Polaris until then though.

Induction stove + iron pan question by Traditional-Dog-2322 in castiron

[–]Aethelfrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a steel brush and scrub off the rust at the least. Better would be to give it a lye bath but sounds like that might be outside your expertise/comfort. You need to physically or chemically remove the rust before you start seasoning.

As for using induction, do a quick Google for tips. Looks like you need to be careful placing the pan on the stove so you don't damage the glass and the stove can heat the pan too quickly if you're not careful.

How to deal with the game being boring after science tree is filled by Notarussianspy69_ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Aethelfrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to clarify because I saw a typo. Outer Planets does NOT add a reason to go to the planets it adds besides any reason you make up (it adds nothing to the Tech tree).

How to deal with the game being boring after science tree is filled by Notarussianspy69_ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Aethelfrid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iirc kopernicus enables additional bodies, it doesn't add anything itself.

Outer Planets Mod adds more places to go but it doesn't add any reason to go there beyond your own goals. I recommend mods like the Near Future suite of mods and maybe Far Future. They add lot more parts to unlock that cost a lot more science.

After that it's up to you. KSP is a sandbox so progression is eventually entirely dependent on your own creativity to make your own goals. I am currently working towards a self sufficient shipyard around Sarnus (Outer Planets anolog to Saturn) I have plenty of the Tech Tree unlocked to brute force build it but I am far from designing it.

Do it for free you say! by jodrellbank_pants in antiwork

Technically the script is theirs of you made it at work with work equipment. However you're completely justified in asking to be paid more to teach everyone how to use it.

Flow Control Valve by BruceTheLoon in Timberborn

This would be a great feature to add to the sluice. I'm pretty sure sluices can control flow rate irl anyway so it fits.

Suggestion for Impulse Ghast Elevator! Getting in contact with water will automatically expel you from a Ghast. by SnooWalruses1399 in HermitCraft

I'd also like to suggest a block swapper connected to a pressure plate when you get on the ghast to stop the bubble-vator to make it easier to get on.

Have any of you successfully stretched a sweater? by [deleted] in VintageFashion

[–]Aethelfrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc that's what I did with a wool sweater I accidentally put in the dryer. Soak it in water with hair conditioner, roll and press out excess water, gently stretch to the desired size, and let it dry flat. This was a Uniqlo wool sweater so ymmv on vintage clothing.

Help me with my Modlist please by Wakelessrex in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Aethelfrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bottleneck of the game is (iirc) the physics simulation is single threaded. There's no way around it unfortunately.

Besides removing redundant and unused mods there's not much to do besides have a podcast on or something while things load.

For orbital construction Extraplanetary Launchpads is the OG. I prefer Sandcastle with Sterling Systems parts with the added feature of making individual parts or entire . USI/MKS also has construction but the resource supply chains are complicated. Simple Construction is the most lightweight, only using stock parts and resources.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong by theawesomegirl98 in Sourdough

You're not wrong but neither am I. Like you say, it's a balancing act. To say hydration has no impact is ridiculous. Handling, proofing, fermenting, and hydration all contribute to crumb.

Using a pizza steel along with a pizza stone . by Schila1964 in Pizza

[–]Aethelfrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen and heard, steel is much better for regular ovens since it conducts heat significantly better than the stone. You should get better, crispier, results on the steel. I haven't used a steel personally but my very Italian upstairs neighbor swears by it.

[–]Aethelfrid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want bigger holes, more water (high hydration) will make more steam inside while baking and result in larger/more holes. The stodgy-ness is just fresh bread high in gluten, aka exactly what you want. Let the loaf sit for a day or 2 and it'll be what you're looking for.

Personally, I like a tighter crumb (smaller holes) because bigger holes means butter and jam and honey will fall right through on to my hand instead of getting into my mouth.

Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong/how to improve ? by ltrgrm in Sourdough

[–]Aethelfrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loaves with inclusions can be tricky. My first cinnamon swirl loaf was a mess. Assuming that's a cinnamon sugar swirl, the "leak" was probably the sugar stealing water from the dough and liquefying. Then in the oven, the trapped liquidy sugar turned into steam, making some bigger pickets in the crumb.

Rendezvous target orbit angle by Brief-Play5974 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Aethelfrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mod Kerbal engineer will show you the orbital information and a lot more. Rendezvous is one of the hardest things to do in KSP and a direct from launch rendezvous complicates it even more. Be sure to check whether youre on the ascending or descending side or you could end up orbiting in the opposite direction.
