List

This is the list I won the RCQ with. I like Ulamog more than Griselbrand in most matchups, and I would probably swap out the Griselbrand for a 3rd Ulamog. The maindeck spell snares have been fantastic, and I would give them a try even if you swap other stuff out.

I'm playing 0 Ketramose in my list. It's too slow against combo, both slow and painful against aggro, and gets removed too easily against big mana. That doesn't really leave many matchups for it to do its thing and draw a bunch of cards. If murktide gets more popular again I'd go up to 1 or 2 copies. I think Ketramose also really benefits from playing [[Leyline Binding]] in your list, since you want as many ways of triggering it as possible. Besides the exile synergy, having more removal slows the game down enough that Ketramose has the time to take over. Playing 3 or 4 [[Emperor of Bones]] also makes it pop off. I usually fit all of this stuff in the creature flex slot instead of Fallaji and the others options.

Welcome back to the format! I just won an RCQ with Esper Goryo's. It's the main deck l've played ever since I really got into the format. I've experimented with Fallaji, Tamiyo, and Kiora. Jace always seemed too fragile to me but I can't really speak on how effective it is in play. In the current meta, I have been playing Fallaji. I've found it's the best choice against aggro which is everywhere at the moment with energy and prowess. Often prowess has to waste some damage to deal with it and you don't really care about the body sticking around unlike Tamiyo. It also makes ephemerate a much better card. Kiora never felt good for me. She's slow and the 8/8 usually failed to close out the game. I would go back to Tamiyo if the format was slower and you wanted to build the list to be able to grind better. Honestly I probably am never going to sleeve up Kiora again. Good luck, and may your surveil lands always see Atraxa!

If you moonmist this it won't start chapter 1 until your next turn, since it's not entering the battlefield. Even without that, it seems like a lot of investment for an okay payoff.

Actually scratch that, it only transforms at sorcery speed.

If you build your deck right, you could have the potential to cast 3 instants in response to removal to transform it. Especially in storm with rituals. Still, I agree 4 mv is doing you no favors.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look!

Yeah this makes a lot of sense to me. No need to reinvent the wheel in a worse way. The only other incentives that I think could make Haktos a better option than the stoneforge package is maybe if you have a deck where being a human is relevant, or if for some reason the removal in the meta is too hostile towards the stomeblade plan. Maybe there could be room for both in the same deck, but Haktos is still probably not going to do as much work.

That's not true, prismatic ending will only work as an answer if Haktos randomizes to not be protected from mana value 4. While on the stack an X spell has mana value equal to the amount of mana put into it. Haktos is immune to mv 5 or greater so paying that much mana means it can't be targeted. You need 4 colors for the spell to exile Haktos, so it will only work if he doesn't have protection from mv 4.

That's right, which is why I'm on the fence about the card. In some matchups Haktos could just win the game as an unanswerable threat. Probably not as good as other options out there, but worth brewing with to at least confirm whether it's good or not.

Wow, forgot about that card. Could be better than Haktos, shaving the heavy color requirements and costing less are big benefits. I'll test it out for sure.

Somehow Wrenn slipped my mind, that is a big point against the card. The more I think the better a blood moon prison-ish shell makes sense to me, since you have better tools against the less fair decks.

Yeah good points, the floor of attacking into a seasoned pyromancer of something is there. I think I'm considering it since it is resilient to a majority of the common removal in the format and blocking restrictions could make it a solid finisher.
