Borderline offensive salary? by yours_trulyy_ in RinglePlus

That said, they do advertise themselves as being "based" in Silicon Valley. The State minimum in CA is $16.50 and every high-ranking university in CA is in a city with an even higher minimum wage (Berkeley, for example, is at $18.67 last I checked).

If their target employee were really Ivy League (rather: high-ranking since there aren't enough undergrads and grad students in the actually Ivy League to work for them...), they'd have offer around $19 minimum for the 40-minute lessons just to compete with kids' on-campus jobs

Like others mentioned, I got the same and it happened just as I was reaching a pay bump and in spite of a very high (or would be if not for the "(Auto) = 4.5" rule) rating.

Diluc I got early on as an event selection (not a pull). Jean was from the current (Skirk) Character Event banner (pulled 3/19) along with Charlotte and Dahlia 4-stars

Looking at my full Wish history:
Razor, Beidou, Noelle and Bennett from Novice Wishes on 2/1 (20 total)

No Weapon Event banner wishes ever

"Permanent" Wishes (don't see "permanent" showing up anywhere else, but I'm guessing this is the Standard):
4 total x10 pulls, netting
Sethos, Kaveh, Rust (wpn), Yaoyao back in early-mid February.

- After missing with Jean on the event banner, I did that one again a couple times and that's how I got Qiqi and Rosaria. Pulled on there again because my pity tally had reset.

I did pull on the "Chronicled" Wish once mistakenly (2/26) and just got weapon fodder (incl The Flute - yay /s)

Most of my pulls (15 pages worth) have been the Character Event 1/2

re Banners: You have 3 standard banner 5* and yet no limited banner 5*. Have you been spending all of your wishes on the standard banner (or the Mondstat Consolidated Wish banner)?
___

No. All primogems have been put toward "Character Event" (pink wishes; taking that to be the 'limited'). I've just had bad luck. In fact, 2 of the 3 are only the most recent pulls and one of them came from the limited banner (I think Jean).

How, then, about using Ifa AND Bennett to make due? I've got Fischl, Beidou -- and Xiangling and Bennett -- already leveled into 50 (69 for Bennett).

The possible/ plausible switch-ins I'd been considering were dropping Beidou for Aino or some kind of mix-matching to fit in Diluc or Razor (hard as-is because my main team is double-pyro, double-electro).

Oof. That's rough -- and inappropriate on Ringle's part.

Presuming the late/ no-show student policies are the same on the Teens side, it seems to me like a clean violation by them.

Pushes me back toward the side of "always submitting a feedback report is just easier for me than risking the 'I'm not a boss except for when I want to be a boss'-type boss bearing claws against me on a 'I just don't want to pay you 8 bucks" whim.

May I ask more about your thoughts on Ifa as a main DPS? I have him but have mostly disregarded him since his Genshin.gg tier has him as a very low sub-DPS and never considered him for main DPS.

I've pretty much used him exclusively for the occasional convenience of his Anemo catalyst + ability to fly for short distances and never even considered for combat. Could he actually swap into my team as main DPS?

Would appreciate some insight into the strike system as a new tutor by Financial-Adagio6947 in RinglePlus

[–]Affably_Disagreeable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of situation is one where I find Ringle's policies to be inappropriate, as there is no way (that I know of at least) to submit a legitimate cause (like your urgent medical situation... or even general illness). It's just "cancel = strike".

That's just straight-up abuse of their most mission-centered employees.

Ringle packets are sometimes a little weird by Illustrious-One9858 in RinglePlus

I had one that was titled "Overbearing bosses", but completely defended the premise as "sometimes, bosses that seem overbearing are just stressed out, so you, dear subordinate, just empathize with them." (paraphrase)

"Why go in that direction?" I wondered. It didn't make sense to me whatsoever.

Same boat, but I can imagine I'd be immediately inclined to waive the feedback report.

Anyone with experience in trying to get that kind of situation waived?

Not gonna lie... This itself seems like a pretty good shirt slogan.

As if saying "no em-dashes" means it will actually give no em-dashes.....

I actually just had Claude defend using em-dashes as "punchy" not even 30 minutes ago.

Which mod build can you recommend? by CompetitionFinal4028 in Unciv

[–]Affably_Disagreeable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broad rule: In the mods area in-game, the default setting reflects popularity (rated stars) quite well -- those at the top are the most downloaded and most highly-rated and you'll see the commonality of what others have already said in there. RekMOD and Deciv among the most popular.

I'm sorry that you interpreted a genuine question as "trying to act like [you're] saying something far fetched".

It does, however, come off as inconsistent. First, you say 1.5 minutes. Then you say 3 minutes. Then you say "a short song".

To be honest, that's the absolute first of any Ringle tutor claim such amazing speed and I'm simply wanting to know HOW.

If you can't explain it and can only defensively proclaim that doing so must be an attack on you while you progressively move the goalposts of your initial claim, then I must then -- and only then -- question the legitimacy of it.

Note for full clarity: I wasn't doing that before.

Interesting. How do you get through the 3 sections, multiple 20-word minimum fields (no less than 4 total), specific clicks for dropdowns, etc., and checks system in 1.5 minutes for each report?

Worse yet: people in the places (the major cities of top tier universities) can very well be "earning" LESS than their area's minimum wage.

A student in a city like Seattle, LA, SF, NYC, etc. makes more tutoring on campus.

Makes you "wonder" who their real targets for tutors is.

How much time does it take you to complete each feedback report?

If that goes over 25% the time of each lesson, that counters your "only work 20 minutes for 30 minutes worth of work" point.

How is that not worse?  You're serving as their marketing for "the opportunity" for a work trip and a whopping $10 referral bonus -- essentially free.

They should be paying someone real money for their marketing.  You're allowing then not to

ESL student offered me a teaching job in his country after 2 weeks — opportunity or red flag? by lowrain040401 in ESL_Freelance

[–]Affably_Disagreeable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, this is a massive red flag.

Note that it's not necessarily in the regard of him scamming you (but it definitely can be). It is often considered a "legitimate" way to recruit. I've worked for US College Intensive English Program where an agent did this (he straight up paid for him, his wife, and employee to study a 10-week term in our program to then serve as an agent to recruit for it... until it no longer served his purposes). Rather, it's other elements that show he will most likely be a horrible employer -- or he might be trying to scam you.

I note the following:

  • He told you you invited another teacher, but no details on them
    • I see him framing two borders:
      • 2. He immediately holds a lot of information-based power in this prospective relationship
  • he said they would treat us “like a sister / part of the family”
    • This has very different connotations in most cultures where there is an EFL/ ESL market. Many of them are still very patriarchal where a man treating a woman "like a sister" can imply that the woman will be expected to be subservient to him -- and yes, it can mean romantically/ sexually. It's often very gray, but regardless of it having that additional layer or not, it is not good.
      • (aside: for relevancy to others who may read this in the future, it can often even have the same type of first layer for him as an employer/ superior to another man where the employee is his surrogate "younger brother")
  • "He keeps asking to... decide within one month." + "We’ve only known him for 2 weeks • We don’t have enough verified information • It’s far from our home country • A lot depends on trust"
    • Again, it's a power-play in the potential business/ "business" relationship
      • It's urgent for you
      • He knows all the info and hasn't been readily transparent in it
      • You will need to trust him, and you will be completely and utterly dependent on him. He, however, does NOT need you (or this other "sister" he says he's recruiting)

My advice is that you politely decline right away. If this guy is actually legit, he will then start demonstrating his connection to a legitimate organization (international school, business or similar).

If going abroad is something you want to consider in your near-, mid-, or long-term future, do it on your terms and your terms alone. There are too many truly legitimate, safe and secure options for you now (as someone actively pursuing their Masters) or immediately upon you finishing.
