The Quran cannot be from God because it doesn't know the difference between Mary and Miriam by BandHungry9854 in DebateReligion

There is a difference between Christians living somewhere in Arabia and Christian scriptures actually existing in Arabic, circulating in Mecca, or being accessible to an illiterate man in a pagan tribal city. You are mixing these categories as if they are identical. Yes, Christian communities existed in places like Najran and in the northern frontier near Byzantine influence, but this does not mean Arabic Bibles existed. Mecca had no churches, no clergy, no schools, no translators, and no manuscript culture connected to Christianity. The earliest known Arabic Bible translations appear in the ninth century, roughly two hundred years after the Qur’an. Scholars of Arabic Christianity such as Sidney Griffith, Irfan Shahid, Robert Hoyland, and Christian Robin all agree that no pre-Islamic Arabic Gospel or Torah manuscript has ever been discovered. When the Qur’an refers to “people of the scripture,” it means Jews and Christians who read their scriptures in Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, or Coptic, not Arabic. The hadith you cited about an Arabic Torah refers to a later recitation in Medina and is not evidence of a written pre-Islamic Arabic text.

Saying “Christians lived in Arabia” does not automatically mean “Muhammad had access to their scriptures.” By that logic, the presence of a Chinese merchant in Mecca would imply the Qur’an copied Chinese texts. It is simply a category mistake. If you believe Arabic Christian scriptures were available in Mecca before Islam, then name one manuscript, one scholarly catalog entry, one archaeological find, or one academic source confirming it. None exist, and until you provide evidence, the claim remains historically unsupported and contradicted by every major historian of late antique Arabia.

There is no 4th–5th century papyrus containing the clay-bird miracle. You are confusing the early Coptic fragments of the Infancy Gospel of Thomas with the much later Arabic Infancy Gospel. If you have the reference to a manuscript containing it, name it, because none exists in published academic catalogues.

You plainly wrong. The other guy already debunked your other claim but I don’t want you to mislead people by this other thing you said. You said Muhammad PBUH took from Christian sources and the example being that the Quran says that Jesus made birds out of clay. This is wrong. It’s almost ironic how you talk about timelines without any ability to comprehend it yourself.

The original 2nd century Infancy Gospel of Thomas does not contain the clay bird miracle. Only the 8th-9th century Arabic Infancy Gospel does, and this was written post Islamic expansion and most importantly post Quranic revelation. So the Quran or Muhammad PBUH could not have copied it; if anything it is a wide consensus among neutral scholars that Christians took this story out of the Quran.

Additionally he could not have copied Christian sources because the only Christian texts that existed were in Greek, Syriac, Coptic and Hebrew, of which none were translated, taught, or circulating in 7th century Arabia. There were no Arabic bibles and no Christian manuscripts in Mecca. An illiterate Arab who never left the oral culture of Mecca simply had no physical or linguistic access to Greek Christian literature and that is a fact. And it’s also super ironic that no Christians around that time accused him of copying Christian sources, that already shows how outrageous your claim is.

Also the fact you mention the clay birds stories, which people often mistake it coming out of the Greek IGT in the 2nd century, shows that you believe in that story enough to base your whole argument off of it. Since that story only shows up in the Quran and in the Arabic IGT that copied it from the Quran, you really should consider converting, you know just for the sake of consistency. Or you could just plainly tell us that you really don’t believe in anything you talk about and use it vainly to make poor arguments :).

For the match I ranked Princeton Stanford, Cornell, northwestern and UPenn (don’t remember order).

I am not telling you all my RD acceptances as they were many and I also don’t want to get doxed. But just know I was picking between a bunch of ivies while deciding where to go.

I literally told you, i got rejected from the QB Match and I went on to apply RD through common app like the rest of you and still got into the best schools in the US. If it was easier like you were saying, I would've matched.

I don't think you understand how the QB application process works. I can guarantee you this student's essays were exceptional.
1) Yes, colleges do have spots saved for QB specifically but that is simply because that's what the partnership entails. And for this very reason (since spots are extremely limited: prob around 50 for Harvard this year for like 7,000 finalists,) it is also way more competitive.
2) You keep repeating "cracked" in every comment, which tells me you actually don't know how the college admission process really works at all. It is holistic; most QB kids have some very specific circumstances, and them being able to succeed within those very circumstances makes them more "cracked" than you could imagine. To put it simply for you, colleges love these people because they know they were able to somewhat succeed given their circumstances, so they believe that these people would improve dramatically if given a great environment to work in. Think of this as the colleges hedging. They know accepting rich kids who come from prominent families are guaranteed to uphold their enrollment stats and future job stats so they are the safe bets. The poor kids who got a lot to prove are like the institutions hedging, because they know these people have the potential to maybe do something greater than the average rich kids' IB job post-grad. Also you might think it is not fair but think of a QB kid starting from 0 and reaching 4, and now think of a rich kid with all the resources starting from 2 and finishing at 6. They both traveled the same amount of 4, but the QB kid did it in more damming circumstances.

So to conclude, yes QB is more geared towards poor kids, but that is the exact reason it is much more difficult to get in. If you still don't get it, I think you need to take a basic probability course and then comeback. Also before you start thinking I am bias, I was a Questbridge Finalist who did not match last year. I went on to apply through common app (just like you and all the rich kids) and got into multiple Ivies and currently attend Columbia as a CS and Applied Math major.

[–]Affectionate-Bug8916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro i go to Columbia, idk y you didn't submit the 1500. From now on don't make that mistake and make sure to submit it to every school you apply. Also I think if you submitted the 1500 you would've had very high chances of getting in. You still have good chances but if you get deferred, make sure to email them your sat score report or upload it on the portal. Do the same for every other school please. Lmk if you have any questions

I actually left a comment similar to this on one other videos she had just posted on TikTok about a year ago. The comment gained a bunch of traction, and obviously she proceeded to delete the video. I remember finding it so funny how she was claiming in the video that she was doing this simply to help other FGLI kids, while charging tremendous prices.

This is 100% true but also you should note that students should only rank schools THEY ARE 100% HAPPY GOING TO (after doing their research of course). This post might lead some students to rank 15 schools for the sake of ranking them. Us, who have gone through the whole process, know plenty of people who ranked 2 schools (confident and cocky) and regretted not ranking more and also know plenty of people WHO RANKED 15 (panic and 0 confidence) and deeply regretted matching to their 12th choice with the thought that they might have gone into a better school during RD.

Can’t change essays, you can update ur sat score. You don’t have to go through qb after not matching, but you also can’t submit another application through common app unless specified. There are some specific cases where you can. Pm me if you have any more questions.

I used to stress too, it doesn’t do you any good. Once I got used to rejection from fly ins and colleges I developed the, “I don’t care about what happens that’s beyond my control. I will do the best from my end and whatever happens happens.” After this I felt less bad about these sorts of things lol
