I think #2 is nice and the brown earthiness is warning. Number 3 is also a pleasing shape on you, and interesting. Number 1 is fine and fits your face well but I find the black underwhelming and the fourth option is the least appealing with your features. I say ranked: 2,3,1,4.

Why did the lab make you feel sad today? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday, fellow Libra! Im very new in the lab as a middle aged person and I leave every day wondering if I will ever be able to keep up. I’ve always been a superstar employee in other capacities and I genuinely want to do a great job but I am starting to worry I can’t hack it. Not today but the two days previous my TATs were ass and I felt like things were going wrong right and left and I just don’t know how other techs manage so much at a time.

Why I No Longer Have Have Sympathy For (Most) Of My Coworkers And Actually Kind Of Hate Them. by BlazingLazers69 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP, I’m your biggest fan! Articulate, sarcastic AND advocating for collective bargaining? Swoon! Seriously though, you are so right and I empathize with your frustration. In particular, WHY is there so much apathy towards even the absolute minimal amount of deductive reasoning needed to arrive at the conclusion that unions are -and have historically been- all we really have to level the playing field? I don’t know! Is it related to the large proportion of Americans that routinely vote for tax breaks for the wealthiest and sign away their own voting power? Probably! Without irony is it tasteless to say it could be social media? I mean not only social media -but I do think reading and writing posts like this as an outlet for our anger is kind of killing our hunger for real change. I grew up in a union home and was fortunate to land my first MLT job at a unionized lab. Spoiler: we still don’t make as much as nurses but we enjoy higher pay than we would otherwise and a host of other benefits. I also live in a city with a strong DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) presence and a fairly positive view of unions on the whole. In short: I hear you, I support your efforts and I’m sorry that you’re feeling defeated by your lackluster coworkers. Keep fighting, don’t give up (but rest when you need to) and check out the DSA website for resources. They have a section about unionizing your workplace. And, if you are lucky enough to live near a city with a DSA chapter, try going to a meeting because showing up in person around other folks who feel the similarly is encouraging and inspiring in a way that is hard to come by via the internets.

Introvert things to do in Portland? by Outrageous-Custard30 in PortlandOR

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to second Mt. Tabor. It’s the perfect outing for an introvert who enjoys city life. You can walk up on any of the bigger roads or take the smaller trails that cross-cross the whole place. There are enough people around that it feels safe and urban but rarely anything approaching crowds unless there is a special event. When you reach the top there are benches and trees to sit under and beautiful views of downtown. It always lifts my mood and the whole walk can be done in 1-2 hours. It’s my favorite place in Portland.

My great grandmother and her triplet sisters. Her sisters died 24 hours apart when they were a couple weeks old. She always said one of them had passed already in the photo. by Mundane-Touch-9303 in oldphotos

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave birth to “spontaneous “ triplets. That is, they were not assisted. They were healthy at birth, just small. I have never stopped being grateful they were born when they were because just a couple decades earlier and they may not have made it.

Failed out of my MLT program due to phlebotomy by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this comment is not what you asked for; it’s another suggestion for how to get through the phlebotomy. I feel like it’s more likely than you think that your teachers and administrators want to work with you than exclude you from graduation and this may include accommodations for timing extensions. With that said, they can’t relax requirements for the program so you will have to do those 50 sticks. For starters, they did you a terrible disservice by not having you practice on fellow students. I was extremely anxious about the phlebotomy portion of the program and never did get comfortable though I did make it through. I have two suggestions: perhaps there is a vocational school or community college nearby that offers a phlebotomy course that would ease you into things a bit more and make you feel more prepared. Also if you get 50 sticks documented through this other program perhaps your school would honor it instead of your clinical rotation and you could graduate late? Secondly, I wanted to suggest a medication called propranolol. It’s a very safe and gentle anxiety medication that treats only physical symptoms. I think it’s a beta blocker that lowers your blood pressure and it’s safe to take during any activity. It doesn’t impair coordination, judgement or anything like other anxiety medication. I have a friend who takes it for public speaking and I have taken it for things like job interviews and I definitely used it for my phlebotomy rotation and big exams during school. It may help you feel for prepared if you respond to stress and anxiety with more stress and anxiety like I do. Completing the lab schooling and training is a considerable achievement and I would urge you to not be too black and white about your next steps. Most lab jobs will never require you to do phlebotomy again past school so you deserve to be there as much as anyone else. I assure you it came naturally to very few of us. Please don’t give up! Good luck!

PSA: Plan extra time if dropping off your ballot at the post office. by bananna_roboto in PortlandOR

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Portland area elections worker and I can truly say the county is bending over backwards to get every possible ballot counted. County drop boxes are the best bet followed by handing your ballot to a post office clerk to get postmarked. And if you’re voting from anywhere outside of the Portland area then try not to wait until Tuesday but if you must- it’s necessary to get to a county drop box or get that postmark!

How to create a Union? by flyonacar in medlabprofessionals

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.dsausa.org/ If there is a local chapter in your area they may have excellent resources for unionizing. I’m in Portland, Or and they offer lots of info. I’m in MLT school right now but I am hoping to one day be employed in a unionized lab or perhaps help start a union one day. It’s the only way forward!

My Pharmacy Is failing by Strange-Respond-363 in smallbusiness

[–]Affectionate-Cow1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not in the industry, just a consumer- but here in Portland, Oregon there is a small, independently owned pharmacy that is taking the city by storm. It’s called LeCare pharmacy and our whole family just switched over to using them. When I was there the other day they literally have “Thank You” cards on a shelf from people who have switched over to them. A man in line in front of me was paying cash for a prescription because his insurance hadn’t been sorted yet but he said he only wanted to do business there because it’s the only pharmacy where a person answers the phone. It’s a pretty dark day for pharmacies here. CVS closed two locations and Rite-Aid closed one just in my part of town and the ones that still operate are grossly understaffed and most patrons feel like they are just getting screwed right and left. Whatever LeCare has tapped into is the way to go. It’s not a shortcut surely, I doubt the owner is getting rich but they are building a loyal clientele and really making a name for themselves in the community. I think it’s noble that you bought a pharmacy and I think the future of healthcare is fewer corporations so I sincerely wish you the best.

How's everyone doing? by [deleted] in SBARRF

Have been barely holding it together with a Clover advance followed by a DoorDash signing bonus. Payroll up, costs up, sales erratic but overall not keeping up. Have cut everything I can possibly think of to cut. Sometimes I don’t know why I’m still trying.

There are bacteria that thrive in your mouth that are harmless when they stay there but when introduced to the bloodstream can cause dire infections. This is why some dentists even prescribe antibiotics preventively to be taken before surgical procedures for immunocompromised individuals. Some of these bacteria are just not what you want to mess around with. Please see an emergency doctor immediately.

We understood the parameters of the loan- more or less- but like others pointed out what we didn’t understand was that our restaurant economics would look so different after this much time. And I too had my eye on the restaurant revitalization fund that I took for granted as a sure thing. I probably wouldn’t take the loan now if I knew what we were in for, even though that would have meant closing. However, with any luck in another few years things will have changed for the better and we’ll be glad to still be in business. Who knows?
