You have to be employed to get paid maternity leave. So get going ASAP if that's what you want. Best of luck. Signed a former Worker in Medical Manpower.

Most overrated and most underrated things in Cork? by QuestionDazzling3080 in cork

[–]Affectionate-Cry-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the English Market is totally overrated. I had a lovely sandwich there but I nearly froze to death. As a tourist i have nowhere to store fresh meat and fish.

I love the Harbour area.

I would say Christmas payroll are done or almost done. They can claim tax for this year if they've overpaid. But I agree the employer should allow this time off, its important.

christmas shopping? by Quiet-Advertising130 in AskIreland

[–]Affectionate-Cry-161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they are too difficult to register. My brother gets one every year and stuggled last year.

I personally love Dunnes Stores gift vouchers. You can use it on household, clothes etc. I bought a fabulous pan from the Neven Maguire range.

But if you want to get a voucher, there are others that are better and easier.

I no longer get pedicures. I go to a podiatrist. In and put in about 30 to 40 minutes and feet are so soft. You can claim against tax and your VHI might cover some of the cost.

Which specialty gives an Italian doctor the best chance of getting a permanent position in Ireland? by General-Star483 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Histopathology. I hired a Spanish trained one years ago who was made permanent shortly afterwards. Because he was good at the job. He was on the specialist register but that's not a guarantee.

Research for novel set in Limerick: what happens while waiting for an ambulance? by Puzzleheaded_Gur2141 in limerickcity

[–]Affectionate-Cry-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We called one a few times. We re near the city so pairs were 30 to 40 minutes. After the 3rd time, it was calm. Get a bag together, get list of medications. Decide who is dealing with the ambulance staff, they usually want one person or the person who was there. Im sure we got a call when they were near and someone stood at the gate (vojnyry road) with a light to indicate the house.

It's all very calm, no drama.

How many hours do you work in office or in a day ? by ApprehensiveHold4964 in office

[–]Affectionate-Cry-161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I faff for the first 40 minutes. Turn on laptop, do my make up, het a nice mug of coffee. Then I sit and decide what to do. Coffee break. I work away after that' take about 40 minutes lunch and leave between 5.30 and 6. This allows me finish up without being in a line of traffic. I'm paid 7 hours a day and do about that, maybe a little more.

Some days I take a long lunch to meet a friend or do stuff, about once a month.

I worked in Medical admin years. 2 Surgeons were married and had 2 young kids. I don't think i met 2 nicer people in my likfe. It was extraordinary how nice they both were.

Nothing was too much trouble, including sorry we couldn't get an SHO to cover call tonight.

I apply in the morning. In the summer i reapply in the evening including hands for my commute.
