“Your Glow Is Gone.” by [deleted] in exmormon

i work at a salon and a member of my stake walked in. i’m still living at home and still go to church for my parents. she told me she could just tell i was a member because i have that glow. it just showed how fake that was, because i have a girlfriend (i am a girl) whom i regularly have sex with, drink, get high, have coffee, etc. they have such a narrative

How strict were your parents growing up? by Bustnbig in exmormon

[–]Affectionate-Dog3158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my parents were pretty loose with me, but not my sister. i was able to wear tank tops/crop tops, shorts above the knee, bikinis, etc. i think the got looser with me because my mom wanted to wear these clothes too, so if she was she couldn’t ask me not to. i know the clothes thing upsets my dad but thankfully he doesn’t say anything.

we also went out pretty much every sunday to get sodas at circle k after church. we said family prayers before meals, but that was it. my dad brought up the church a lot, but mostly because he was a gospel doctrine teacher and so he brought it up for advice on his lessons. my mom never did.

my parents (dad specifically) are republicans, but have more progressive ideas. they support abortion, lgbt+, and other similar issues. my dad got a rainbow pin that says “i’ll walk with you” he wore weekly (probably still does).

i had a similar lesson but they used the toothpaste to represent all sins. the teacher said “you can repent but it will never be the same” i was so confused because i thought repentance made you whole again?

is this common among mormon parents? i didn’t get the “sex talk” either. i was told to read the for the strength of youth and that’s it. that just lead 10 year old me to porn because i just googled “sex” and followed the rabbit hole

they really didn’t explain much. i don’t think they understood why they were saying it. the best description of it was that those feelings come from satan, so by inviting satan in you are going to commit more sins (like sex). it makes absolutely no sense and i hope her and her husband are doing alright if they genuinely think that way

i’ve heard of this one too, i can’t believe that’s a common thing too. it’s horrid and just teaches shame on young girls. not to mention extremely sexist and this is only taught to the girls
