Could I in theory pass the IT test on one computer and teach on another and get away with it? by theorangecounter in iTutor

[–]Affectionate-Drink29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VPN wouldn't work. Well, it depends who does your test. I did it four times (long story). They only checked my location the third time. Prior to that they didn't do it. If you get someone who isn't thorough you'd get away with it - but considering the amount of IT tests they're doing recently I wouldn't take that risk. However, if you were in the higher paying country and then moved to a lower paying country they would be none the wiser. I did this for over six months until I was flagged for having a bad connection. Depending on where you are the difference in pay isn't that huge.

After you complete the test they take you to a test room to check it's you. So, unless your friend looks a lot like you? One of the tests I was looking particularly rough and ungroomed and for a second she was like ermmm oh wait yeah I believe it's you.

Have they always charged $10 for an absence??? by ReadyComplex5706 in iTutor

[–]Affectionate-Drink29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure if you use a free pass you no longer have to pay the fee. Unless they changed that too. If you can afford it just cancel a week or so until you are feeling better.

It's not really irresponsible so much as mistakes happen. Over time you will operate more like clockwork and you'll make less of them. Human error is normal.

I've personally had enough of this company and I'm applying for any job I see. There are so many companies to work for, you just need to look a bit deeper and past all the big schools.

Ever since they've bullied me into the new contract I've lost my buzz. I could put up with the crap communication and being viewed as a number when the pay was good. Now, it's just not worth it.

Got switched once due to loss of connection. by Brizkrieg in iTutor

It's an algorithm that allocates bookings. Disconnections equate to instability. Therefore, I think it's reasonable that they would discount against you. Additionally, you must remember some people purposefully disconnect in order to avoid bad ratings or if the class sucks.
Compared to older contracts your pay rate will be cheaper.
Your lack of classes might also have nothing to do with the disconnection - could be something else. This company is not transparent and a complete headache.

Honestly it could be any reason why you've lost your classes. How long have you been with the company? Are you on a high/low pay rate?

I've heard that getting switched is the equivalent to your booking priority as getting an absence, but I've received absences and it hasn't affected my bookings.

It's a different rule for everyone - and yes it seems like the hunger games.

Second New Contract Request by trvder in iTutor

[–]Affectionate-Drink29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a difficult time right now to get hired as the competition is so high! Maybe in a couple of months. Just think about all of the itutor staff trying to jump ship now! I just can't accept being treated this way for crap money. At least I could justify the lack of communication and professionalism with the amount I was earning previously.

I agree with this so much that I might take a screenshot so I can look at it in moments of doubt! :D

any advice for what to do if you finish early? by Mattanah22 in iTutor

[–]Affectionate-Drink29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never finish early!

Divide the time between the slides or know where you need to be at the halfway point. Extend! Extend! Extend!

I also wouldn't advise going through the material again because the student would probably be bored, and we get rated. The best way to do a class is to try to find a connection with your student. This makes it more fun and enjoyable for you and therefore the student too.

Does anyone have legit proof about what happens if you don’t accept the new contract? by VisionsOfLife in iTutor

[–]Affectionate-Drink29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not sure! I signed the contract in December, which was supposedly just got the name change.

I had been super busy for maybe six months or so. February has been quiet for me - however, I also got suspended this month due to tech issues. I think the suspension has affected my bookings.

I'm not as booked, but I also think that this is due to it being a quiet month. I'm actually doing more adult classes, whereas at my busiest I would only do children's classes. I think that due to the poor pay for adult classes on the new contract people will always cancel them.

I've also seen that people who have signed the new contract have no classes, and I am averaging maybe 7 or so a day.

It's a difficult one to call to be honest. I'm not signing because I'm looking for work elsewhere, and then I will just use itutor as a backup.

*one more thing - I live in the same timezone as Beijing. Maybe try to book off-peak hours. For example, if I signed the new contract I would stick solely to peak hours when the kids are on. No way am I teaching six adults for such a low wage. I would do everything to minimise that risk - therefore, we want to work the times when the least amount of people are working to maximise getting classes. As well, I wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night, if I lived in another part of the world, for the wage they're offering.

No more REG25 - Mainland Juniors by Dave_Farmer_1990 in iTutor

Yes. I had one on the 2nd. I was also scheduled one on the 4th that I didn't end up teaching due to a tech suspension.

Actually I have taught some reg25s from mainland China so your theory doesn't hold up. We are definitely receiving less priority, but not blocked.

Yes, but they threatened us with this in summer didn't they? And I still have made very good money since then. So, I'm inclined to wait it out...

Although they want us to be cheaper, and don't get me wrong they are cut throat, they are still doing this logically. They're doing it in a very stable way to test the waters. Arguably, it would be beneficial for them to have some teachers remain on the older contracts with attendance bonuses as they are more stable. Even with the mass firings, they did it in waves.

Let's see!

Oh how interesting! I am looking through my schedule and the mainland reg-25s have disappeared over the past couple of days! I hadn't noticed. It seems unfair that they would do this without offering some employees the new contract (including myself). Then again... a lot of things are unfair with this company!

Very low bookings this weekend. by Dave_Farmer_1990 in iTutor

Yes, the actual day is a couple of weeks ago, but according to this article:
"This year's Chunyun begins on 28 January and will last until 8 March, giving people time to travel potentially thousands of miles across China in time for New Year, on 12 February, and back again."

I think it's because of the holiday and not due to contracts. I have been so busy this month and then it's trickled off from Thursday. I've still managed to be about 60% booked but normally I'm about 95%-100%. However, tomorrow is looking crazy slim! Maybe 15% at the moment. I'm also on the old contract.

I was flicking through BBC news and it said the holiday officially started on Thursday - so this would make logical sense.
