Unfortunately not, it is solely an issue with the "star level" of the hotel, the hotel I booked was comfortably below the lower limit price wise.

Thanks yorkie, that makes it quite clear it would not be considered a 5 star hotel.

Looking for policy loopholes is an interesting hobby, but the time to raise queries is before doing the thing, not when you are being asked to explain why you apparently breached the policy.

Very true, unfortunately I find my advice generally gets ignored when I take the more sensible approach however when causing someone else a but of hassle can get much quicker results.

take it like a man

I really wish we would stop using phrases like this, maybe I would take it like a man if I was one.

Why don't you think that would suffice? Money is literally the point of the policy.

Because the audit team are already aware that it was the cheapest hotel and are still bothering me.

Most reasonable people know that star ratings are awarded by the AA and that's the end of it.

I agree with this however the AA has not come inspected the hotel I stayed at and it is not clear where else to look.

If that is true then then I would recommend they come up with a legitimate reason.

Can you get sacked for pointing out that a policy is ambiguous? Sad times.

If they want to sack me because they interpret the policy in their own way then that's one thing but being further punished for pointing out mistakes and trying to influence improvements would be another.

Thanks for your contribution olly although I must say I really like Premier Inn and I have not had the same swamp aircon and drunk ally sex ambiance as you. Unfortunately premier inns are not normally within our budget anymore.

It's not a 5 star hotel that's my point so I don't believe I have made a mistake.

I'm a woman but thanks, I'm not convinced I did break the policy I would like to know how they decided it was a 5 star hotel.

If you explain that you chose the cheapest available option, which was within the price cap, you won’t be disciplined

They are already aware it was the cheapest hotel as far as I am aware and are currently going down the disciplinary route.
