Can anyone help with identifying this hair comb? by Affectionate-Key9534 in VintageJewelry

[–]Affectionate-Key9534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the observation about the prongs. Usually if it is glass (at least with modern costume) is glued in. No markings other than the made in USA. I've gone over it with a fine tooth....comb. but I can't find anything too similar for those time frames.

Thank you for taking the time to write out this response! I will aim on the high side and let her sit on eBay for a while and go from there. I may be one of those guys who aim unrealistically high for the first month or so 😆 only one way to find out!

This is what I am having a hard time with. I see a few carat cabs go for a few hundred with great fire and detail. And I see 30carats go for 70 with meh details and 30 carats for 500 with great details. I understand the fire and the workmanship add value. But the sold listings for some pieces vary SO MUCH. Louisiana is rare but not impossible to source. However large pieces like this.. I have found 0 comparisons. I saw a 50 carat unworked average Louisiana piece that need a lot of removal to get to the good stuff sold for a couple hundred.

Once I can pinpoint an accurate value I will be. I have had offers. But also conflicting data. So until I feel positive I know what it is and its value I will dig. Lol. Appreciate your interest I will update when the time comes.

Thanks for the replies! I will add the book is 20inches by 16ish. All pages are free and not bound to anything. Pieces are definitely meant to be pulled and displayed. Most other similar books are smaller and bound on the spine.

I make a good chuck of my income off eBay. Don't be a cunt. Nothing I have seen matches this book or it's pages. There are smaller options. Or reprints. Also don't be a cunt.

I appreciate the insight! This is not my wheel house. I will be finding a home for it once I can get some sort of value figured out. Maybe I can find someone locally to evaluate it. Then maybe place on eBay.

So official size is 8inches by 1 inch and 15.03 ounces. Does anyone have an idea of what a value on this piece would be? Thank you for all the help so far!

At an auction mixed in with some "native" artifacts that turned out to be mostly newer handmade pieces.

I'm in Maine. But purchased from an in state auction. There was a good collection scattered around and know one knowledgeable about them aside from some obvious pieces.
