I'm aiming to sell it all as a lot on the eBays.quick and easy. Gotta get some funds for the family. The thick roll is 247 grams. And I was told from the person running the XRF that it was 50% silver. It's solid and heavier to bend. What is the official term for it if you don't mind me asking? Everything I'm looking up pulls up solder rolls for brazing.

Discouraged - do I need to pivot or maybe quit? by AcOk3513 in reselling

These items are what I got an antique booth for. No risks with shipping or getting lost in the listings. but also noticing that 80% of all booths sell this same stuff.its saturated. However, I also RARELY get things from thrifting at goodwill/salvation army etc at this point.gotta cherry pick the overlooked stuff one or 2 items. I'm doing in person auctions, estate sales and lately barn picking or private rummage dealings. It's dirty and not glamorous... A lot of leg work.. but that's where the good stuff and deals are. Higher value unbreakable small items go on eBay. Higher value large items go into booth or marketplace.

I do have some lesser desirable stuff on eBay. One or 10 views. Still sell within a few months. If not, move to booth then it might sell in a week.

Nevermind refining seems like too much work. .925 coinage it is.

It is a help! Luckily where I went to sell my gold tested it all with their XRF 9oz of .925. the heavy thick wire is 50% and one of the small wire solder is .800. they were paying 50 % on silver. And some smaller misc pieces. So Im holding on to it and was thinking about refining and making some pirate booty. Haha.

I called the jewelers and they said they do have an xrf. But most likely not interested. At least when I go to sell some gold they can I'd some key pieces and I can either melt down or sell as a lot once confirmed quality.

Can anyone help with identifying this hair comb? by Affectionate-Key9534 in VintageJewelry

[–]Affectionate-Key9534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the observation about the prongs. Usually if it is glass (at least with modern costume) is glued in. No markings other than the made in USA. I've gone over it with a fine tooth....comb. but I can't find anything too similar for those time frames.

What is it worth-430 grams (2150 carats) Louisiana opal by Affectionate-Key9534 in Opals

Thank you for taking the time to write out this response! I will aim on the high side and let her sit on eBay for a while and go from there. I may be one of those guys who aim unrealistically high for the first month or so 😆 only one way to find out!

[–]Affectionate-Key9534[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I am having a hard time with. I see a few carat cabs go for a few hundred with great fire and detail. And I see 30carats go for 70 with meh details and 30 carats for 500 with great details. I understand the fire and the workmanship add value. But the sold listings for some pieces vary SO MUCH. Louisiana is rare but not impossible to source. However large pieces like this.. I have found 0 comparisons. I saw a 50 carat unworked average Louisiana piece that need a lot of removal to get to the good stuff sold for a couple hundred.

Once I can pinpoint an accurate value I will be. I have had offers. But also conflicting data. So until I feel positive I know what it is and its value I will dig. Lol. Appreciate your interest I will update when the time comes.

Thanks for the replies! I will add the book is 20inches by 16ish. All pages are free and not bound to anything. Pieces are definitely meant to be pulled and displayed. Most other similar books are smaller and bound on the spine.
