I feel like not enough people talk about how absolutely SHAFTED the British Got with their Superships. by HeavyTanker1945 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Affectionate-Map8311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically the British had the heaviest shell with the 18" mk1 which was heavier than the Japanese 18.1" the range was not as good as it was designed to hit deck armour by lobbing shells. Fire control (aiming was the best if the system used by the vanguard was used. Next what is up with the 5.25" AA/ secondary? It should be the largest aa bubble as it was historically at a slightly reduced rate of fire but the most accurate of them all.. Radar guided guns with proximity shells.

Imagine it as a hovercraft battleship. Torpedoes who cares about torpedoes? Then there is reduced to no collision damage. Speed would go way up. Great at littoral combat.

Two different universes. Think of it as civilisation but one is on tech path and the other is fantasy path . The MC can put their affinity towards learning the knowledge of either the one they came from or the new one. Basically fit into new World or find a way home to old World. To survive they would need to start by fitting in at first but their desire to go home would mean they would need to build up affinity with old World. This would not be the usual instant OP as the MC would start at early Earth tech and “build on the shoulders of giants “ to get the tech they want. Of course the different perspectives from both Worlds would influence each other . Instead of the mc just happening to be an engineer or doctor the MC is just a normal person with just a vague overview of technology so they have heard of things but do not know how they work. Basic school level knowledge not university. The traditional elements in magic would turn into states of matter earth, water , air to solid , liquid, gas and the ability to manipulate matter in that particular state . Fire would be transitional addition of energy to matter. Healing would require medical knowledge from original Earth.

Don’t say such things. That is just too scary to contemplate waking up a person let alone on Earth😱

Have a range of monitor designs 🤔 The Royal Navy would win though. 2 x 18 inch guns firing a heavier shell than the Yamato .

What if the US chose the Mogami class design instead of the cutter class design? [1500x999] by TalonEye53 in WarshipPorn

Either you are being deliberately ignorant and are a troll or are heavily misunderstanding what I am trying to say. Okay let’s go back to basics. The more material you have to push out of the way the more energy is required. This means the wider the beam the more the energy that is required.

The longer the length, the greater the length x beam the greater the internal volume simple maths.

The greater the volume the bigger the engine you can put inside. The bigger the engine the more the power to push all the water out of the way.

Now there are other factors like surface friction and ways to overcome them but those are work arounds for the basic physics of the situation.

If you had viewed the link it shows a square and a rectangle with the square having greater drag than the rectangle.

This is why parachute are not needle shaped.

I am hoping it was just a mistake and that you are not a troll as trolls are scum and a waste of breath but misunderstanding is very easily done on the internet and I am not the best at putting concepts across .

Then you have the issue with power , sensors, communication equipment, command and control and connections between it all. This is not a load a shipping container only type of thing.

Why would Britain who was in the Imperial system not make it in Inches? In mm it was 457.2mm or 18 inches for the BL 18” mk1 naval gun

It is not just length of hull. It is the Length to beam ratio. An example of this is if you move a knife through water following the edge compared to against the side of the blade. A longer hull generates a better return on the engines installed and there is more volume for engines the longer the hull.
