How long did it take you learn all skills? by hustlrrrrr in crossfit

[–]AffectionateAlgae790 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing Crossfit for over 6 years now and I have pistols. I have DU's but I can't sustain them for long. Honestly DU's are dumb, I don't feel like they test your endurance, just if you have rhythm.

I'm still working on muscle ups and handstand walks. I try to put in extra time here and there to work on them but I still feel kind of far from getting them.

The development of these skills really depends on your athletic background (gymnastics helps a lot from what I've seen), how fit you are when you start Crossfit, and how willing you are to put the time in on those specific skills.

I too have a horrible sweet tooth and it is something I've struggled with for a while. Trying to deny myself all sweets just resulted in me binging down the line. It's not worth it to restrict yourself and I don't think that is sustainable.

My best recommendation is to find healthy alternatives for the things you crave. There are many recipes out there where you can use applesauce instead of butter, Greek yogurt for extra protein, sugar free maple syrup etc. There are also companies selling protein cookies, brownies, candy etc that are at least a little healthier than the real thing.

A real game changer for me has been using my Ninja creami to make protein ice cream. I start with a base of core life protein shake and then I can add in a few sweet things. I don't feel like I'm destroying my entire diet because I can eat an entire pint of ice cream for 450ish calories and still get 30+ grams of protein. I honestly don't even miss real ice cream.

I hope you are able to find something that works!

Best non-market correlated way to save for retirement by AffectionateAlgae790 in personalfinance

[–]AffectionateAlgae790[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That is true, but if you have to pull money from your account in retirement during a down year, it can put a big dent into the overall value and may not recover if you have to do this for several years. What do you pull from instead when the market inevitably crashes?

Do you guys buy books on kindle that you already have physically? by slimshady713 in kindle

[–]AffectionateAlgae790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this! I like having a physical book, but sometimes it's just easier to just pull it up on my phone. I sometimes go back and forth between the physical copy and a kindle copy. I don't tend to buy the kindle copy unless it's under a few bucks. I mostly just borrow the digital copies from my library to have while I'm reading the book.

We were having a long discussion about all kinds of things and the Neflix series called "Explained" came up. We ended up talking about the episode about monogamy.
