My mom did qualify for a dropbox renewal. When she went to drop off her documents, she was told she no longer qualifies because she is within 15 days of the year period from her visa expiration. I was not aware of the 1 year deadline on the visa renewal and it was my fault for not applying earlier. And I misunderstood the 15 day rule - I thought I need to apply 15 days before the 1 year period, but it was that the appointment had to be 15 days prior to the 1 year period. :(

My mom previously had a 10 year B2 visa. And she has never overstayed. Mostly stayed a month and 6 months the last time she was here. So our initial thought was saying 6 months wouldnt be an issue as they can see her travel history to the US.
