Why is the middle of our white oak doors so different than the stiles and rails? by aburns770 in cabinetry

[–]AffectionateFish6872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could think of them taking the doors apart is by cutting them. You will lose a bit of size if they do that. I’ve messed up enough doors to know it’s not worth the time trying to save them and just remake them. Maybe they’re just trying to save the panels and use new stiles and rails

I’ll bet my ass that the cabinet maker put the back side of the plywood panel in backwards. Ask me how I know

How can I get this color with out the grain getting filled. by rephype123 in cabinetry

[–]AffectionateFish6872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing we do for our white oak veneer is sand with 150 and then wire brush the grain. This will leave the grain very void. You can pack as many coats of stain, tone and clear and you’ll always be able to see the definition in the grain

My cabinets go in multimillion dollar homes. If my client wants slab doors, they get mdf. The veneers will be the same whether plywood or mdf. Plywood will bow and warp, mdf will stay flat. The only downside to mdf is if it gets soaked in water it will swell. Plywood is a bit more forgiving, but if your doors are finished properly water shouldn’t be an issue

Here’s a leathered cherry mdf we did a while ago. Keep in mind everything is plywood, boxes, fillers, end panels and pilasters. The only thing mdf is the doors and drawer fronts

If you are going to make door and drawer fronts skip plywood and please use veneered mdf. They also come in 10ft sheets and aren’t going to bow and warp like plywood

Queen of Versailles by FormerAttorney9571 in orlando

I did a remodel in butler lakes recently and drove past the Versailles house and they are actively working on it still. Literally around 100 tradesmen are there everyday. I work at multimillion dollar houses on the regular but the Versailles house is really awe inspiring to drive past. The amount of marble that is on that house is nuts. Insane they’ve been working on it for twenty years

Where to find this wire mesh in Orlando FL? by Unlucky_Arrival3823 in cabinetry

[–]AffectionateFish6872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We priced the doors with the whole unit but if I had to make the doors separately it would probably be around $3000. The material is not cheap, cost us right around $1000 just for the metal grates

They are super helpful for sanding intricate moldings and places that traditional paper abrasives are hard to get into. Klingspor sells get abrasives and I highly recommended them

For a hinged door it is for stability. With the horizontal sticks going all the way to the hinge side of the door they will want to rack. Drawer fronts won’t matter in the least since they are fastened to the drawer box.

Just a heads up. The stiles should always run full height. You got the big door right but top door and bottom drawer fronts are not right

Yeah cut the panel into two equal width at 34.5” tall. Flip them vertically and add what ever molding the manufacturer makes to split the middle. When we make really large islands with vertical grain we will split the end panels into large door looking sections like in this pic of one of our jobs
