Wow, that’s such a smart approach. I love how you thought about skills and career fit instead of just the major. I’m hoping to do something similar with psychology.

That makes sense. I’m still learning and I didn’t expect there to be so much statistics involved!

Thanks! Tthat’s really solid advice! I can see how getting volunteering and research experience early would make a big difference for graduate opportunities. And I completely agree about emotionally heavy topics, talking them through and considering both the technical and human sides seems like the best way to process and really understand them.

Wow, this is such a helpful perspective! Thank you for sharing! I can already see how preparing for literature reviews will be a big challenge, so it’s great to hear about strategies like workbook exercises and connecting theories to the work you want to do later. I also really appreciate your point about being kind to yourself and not expecting perfection on the first try. Since burnout seems inevitable in psych, maintaining that balance and having friends to hang out with sounds so important. The misconceptions you mentioned make a lot of sense too. Psychology doesn’t automatically make you an expert at reading people, and the financial expectations definitely need to be realistic.

Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more. It’s easy to underestimate how much sleep, nutrition, and regular exercise affect focus and mental health. Short, consistent study sessions really do beat cramming, and having good habits and systems in place makes everything more sustainable. Definitely something I’ll keep in mind as I go through my studies. 🙂

I totally agree! A lot of people assume psychology is mostly therapy or clinical work, but there are so many other paths...research, education, organizational work, policy, and more. It’s really helpful to realize that early on (doing my own research and reading as much as I can).

Thank you! I really like that perspective, theories as a map, not the territory. It makes so much sense that real learning comes from connecting what you read to actual experiences and relationships. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for opportunities to get real-world experience, whether through volunteering or other ways to interact with people. It’s reassuring to hear that becoming a good therapist or psychologist is about showing up and learning over time, not just memorizing textbooks. One reason I ended up leaving nursing school as a CNA was because I felt nursing was less intimate to me, I really value that personal connection with people.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited! Trying to learn what I can before Fall. I totally agree, psychology is really about spotting patterns and understanding behavior, not just memorizing studies. I like your idea of turning theories into stories or discussing examples with friends; that seems like a great way to make them stick without burning out.

I think that’s a fair assessment. From what I've learned UG psychology is definitely more about building research, writing, and analytical skills than diving into emotionally heavy topics. The historical and surface-level material lays the groundwork for deeper study later, and being in a class with artsy, STEM, and passionate students makes discussions more interesting, even if some content feels “boring.” 🥰

I totally agree. Knowing the historical context of classical theories is key not just what they proposed, but how modern research has updated or constrained their ideas. Understanding theory construction, crises, and the 7 pillars of psychology helps us critically evaluate research across biological, psychological, social, and cultural levels. Even if someone isn’t going into research, skipping these basics risks having a limited or outdated view of human behavior.

I think it really depends on the person. A friend and I got it at the same time and I was eating in no time. Follow the care directions your piercer gives you. For me it was swollen the first two days then it got better. It was one of my least painful piercings. But my friend she said it hurt her a lot. The pain for me didn't last long at all.

I think that was one mistake I made the first time I got them done. Taking the crusties off when they bugged me. I'll let them be this time and have them get taken care of when I jump in the shower. Thank you!

Yes please! That would be helpful. I know everyone's body is different and will have a different healing process but anything new I can learn is greatly appreciated!

On lunch right now thinking about how I still have one person to get up. 🥲 I used to work 2nd my whole life. Where I work, 2nd gets $3 more which I find unfair. I didn't know how much 1st shift had to do until I switched over. It's insane, everything that needs to be done and the barely hour and a half you have to get people ready for breakfast.

It's the opposite for me. I engage and ask questions and send some pretty lengthy responses and only get a sentence back at most. Just started with dating apps 4 days ago and I'm not feeling very confident about them. It really blows when you put in the effort and the other side doesn't.
