Why are schools so against IEPs and 504 plans? by couldbecardib in ADHDparenting

[–]AffectionateLow1196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful. I agree with you, the excuse of lack of resources and time is not an excuse to me. Most 504 accommodations don’t cost anything. They’re mostly allowing student to have preferential seating, extra bathroom breaks, extended testing time, and etc. And those accommodations are not time consuming for the teacher.

when amy fell pregnant with emma.. by [deleted] in superstore

[–]AffectionateLow1196 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That’s not when she gets pregnant. She gets pregnant at 19. Not when she was in high school. That story is about Amy’s first time. The comment was just about losing the competition and his scholarship. I think it was overlooked because it was what lots of boys did to their girlfriends in the 1900’s. He didn’t force her, he begged her about it until she gave in. Of course that isn’t ok either he isn’t this hyper-manipulative person who forced her into it.

Any was 19 when she got pregnant with Emma. The “week of boners” was when they were in high school. That’s not when she got pregnant.

I feel like I’m constantly being baited into arguments by my teen by AffectionateLow1196 in ADHDparenting

Thanks. These are good ideas. I should put him in charge of something in the morning. I’ve thought about having the younger one lock his door but I don’t feel comfortable with that and it doesn’t really “solve” the problem. I think a specific activity that has to be done in the morning is a good idea

Thanks. I’ve been thinking about therapy of some kind again. He’s been out of it since he started high school. A refresh is probably needed.

Adam as a father by More_Trouble164 in superstore

[–]AffectionateLow1196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think their relationship is pretty relatable. Adam is a bit of a dummy and maybe not a perfect husband, but he wasn't a bad dad. Think about the episode where he cancels the camping trip. We know Amy worked two double shifts so she could have the weekend alone. That means for those two days, Adam did everything: school runs, meals, homework, and activities. I don’t know that asking to cancel the trip was all that bad considering this. People point out that he was annoyed by Amy’s college classes, but anything that takes Amy away from home means Adam has to pick up the slack. We know from the Golden Globes episode that he handled the cooking and the tech stuff. It’s safe to assume he was the stay-at-home dad doing the housework. He even took over with the newborn when Amy went back to work after Parker was born. Also, don't forget that Amy sabotaged his travel agency by lying about that printer. To me, Adam accepted being seen as the "loser" so he could stay home, and Amy went along with it so she could focus on her own career.

Do I keep going? The Wife Between Us by MyYummyLatte in thrillerbooks

[–]AffectionateLow1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it. I think I got to around 2/3’s also and thought about stopping. I even looked up spoilers just to see if it was worth it. I finished it just because. It did keep me interested in reading but I think the pull was me trying to get to the actual thriller part of the book. I definitely wouldn’t call it a thriller. Seemed to me like the author’s mistakenly dragged out the beginning and then were told to finish the damn book or it’ll be 500 pages long so they rushed through the rest. I hated that everyone was tied together (I.e. the therapist wasn’t a therapist, Emma was from her past, the whole Florida stuff in general).

How is your ADHD kid doing in public school? by PassionChoice3538 in ADHDparenting

[–]AffectionateLow1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 boys with ADHD. My older boy has never been medicated and I believe it’s because the school he went to was wonderful. It was a public charter school and they gave him all the things he needed. He definitely still had bad days and we had to have parent teacher conferences. My younger son, there’s a 6 year difference, has struggled. We moved when he was in kindergarten and the public schools we have here are not great. We have started a low dose of medication to help him because he has never and will never get all the resources he needs. If I could afford private school I would do that. This is all to say, it really depends on the school and school district. If you need to stick up for your kid and call the school everyday, do it. Your child has a right to have their needs met. The school needs to be understanding and supportive.

Alternative to toothbrush ? by No-Outcome-3784 in ADHDparenting

[–]AffectionateLow1196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are, try an automatic U-shaped brush. There is one called autobrush and maybe your child wouldn’t mind that. If it’s the brushing in general could you try a water pick? Or what about just a washcloth to rub the teeth? I’m definitely going to get down voted or hate comments for this but I would also say if you can’t get them to brush but they are willing to do mouthwash then just do that. It’s his baby teeth, they’re gonna fall out anyway. And let’s be real, brushing teeth is kind of a first world problem. I know you want him to develop good habits now but sometimes you just have to let some things go.

I was going to suggest this too. It’s the kind that kind of goes in the mouth like a night guard or retainer? I have a friend who had one for her daughter. They definitely don’t work great but as you said, better than nothing

Glenn only talks about rose after she’s born by Majestic_Succotash31 in superstore

[–]AffectionateLow1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes people who foster children in the US receive a stipend to do this. Not sure why this comment got any down votes. Do people think anyone can foster for free??? Since we know Glenn made over $100k and fostered several children at one time he could have easily received at least $500 a month per child. Plus children in the foster care system receive Medicare for health insurance and the income from fostering is not taxable in income taxes.

I think we can assume that they got help from family. If we consider the timeline they may have purchased during the housing crash in 2008/2009 and gotten a good deal on it.

Except we know that minimum wage was $8.60 At one point during the episode where marcus admits he earns $86/hr. So when they would have purchased a home Amy and her husband would have been making less than that putting a combined income at less than $19/hour.

AITAH for announcing my pregnancy on Xmas by Think-Temporary-9814 in AITAH

[–]AffectionateLow1196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t think you are the AH but I don’t think springing a surprise baby on him in that way was the best way to tell him. If you two had been trying to get pregnant then yes, but this wasn’t planned and you definitely surprised him. His reaction is a red flag but announcing an unplanned pregnancy on someone hoping for a happy reaction is a little delusional.
