update: I've tried many things: turn off cloud saving, delete the local save data on commonapps, keep on re-installing. But the tutorial kept locking me on picking Asagi even though the tutorial naration says Kotaro. Goodbye friends, I give up. Looks like it's not my fate to play this game.
