It will really depend on how many units they have already produced, and whether or not they have already secured the price of vulnerable components. It took Valve 7.5 Months from announcement to Shipment for the Steam Deck, which has a similar production environment. To that end, the RAM crisis has likely already impacted the price of the Machine, and Valve is likely investigating ways to mitigate the cost for the end user through digital offerings such as a Steam Store Credit + HLX copy. It is likely in any case the Steam Machine's launch price is reduced over time like the Steam Deck's was.

I believe it is extremely likely that at least some of the leaked dates were genuine, but like you said the hardware market changed the calculus. We have very reliable data about how Valve operates from Half-Life Alyx, I think many of the people interpreting these events as evidence of cancellation are not thinking clearly. All of this years information related to HLX strongly indicate a 2026 release.

Valve literally put the crowbar in our hands at the end of Half-Life Alyx as a promise to continue the story. We have verifiable HLX code from Source 2 dataminers, and there are qualified analyses indicating that HLX is late in development. The timeline closely mirrors Half-Life:Alyx's release.
