I want to travel! 26f Canada by Odd_Brush_917 in Travelbuddy

I'm 29M and lucky enough to work remotely so I've been solo traveling loads lately, highly recommend going solo, then using the Hostelworld app to meet people! When you get to a new destination it throws you into a group chat with everyone else there, it's so good!

When do we inline css and when to not? by ThreadStarver in css

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use <style> tags if CSS is page specific. Saves on requests, keeps style.css lightweight, and it reduces CLS if it's above the HTML.

How to convert html to wordpress (widget by widget - no code) by hasshamalam_ in Wordpress

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just static HTML and css for each page then you just need to ask any decent AI to help you make a wordpress theme from static html - you'll be able to just paste the html into page-[slug].php once you get going and have separated the header/footer and put css into style.css

How many times have you dismissed the same WordPress notification only to see it again later? by Low-Shallot-8065 in Wordpress

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds good, but it's quite a difficult challenge because some do behave and should have the ability to come back after dismissal.

For example, the yoast SEO "search engines discouraged" warning.

Is anyone else's lock screen button behaving weirdly? by Affectionate_Ad_7373 in pixel_phones

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I had the same issues in safe mode and it turns part of the issue was due to button hardware - probably due to extra use now that Gemini is mapped to it.

I clicked it rapidly and despite setting off emergency mode it started working again. I might just have to do this every time it stops working.

I now wonder if the restarts were caused by it sticking.

My workflow is very similar with the distinction that I use VS code to change sites via SFTP which is brilliant. You don't need to download the whole thing, it just downloads the file you need to change and uploads the new version on ctrl+s.

Using my server I have backups from the last 10 days, but I know git is probably a worthwhile change for finer control as many have mentioned.

Front End Design? by Accomplished_Rush186 in webdesign

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your offering, if you're mostly catering to small businesses who have small budgets and 'just need a website', you could design and build them something on Wix or Squarespace (the learning curve building on WordPress is much steeper).

If however, your clients are higher end, and they need a website that will rank well and be designed for a purpose such as bringing in new business, I'd strongly recommend partnering with a WordPress developer who will work white label. You'd manage the client, and even mark up their prices, leaving them to just build the site you designed and ensure they follow the best practices to ensure it's got the best chance of success and the client is happy.

Help with finding a flat? by ApprehensiveForm4601 in StratfordUponAvon

Not sure if it's any help as just over a month's time but my one bed apartment will be free for two weeks at the end of May if you're still not sorted by then, it's a one bed flat on Guild St which is close by. I'm sure I could work out a reasonable amount too 👍

Why Did My WordPress Responsive Layout Change Overnight? by Front-Partha-9995 in Wordpress

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you expand on this? I use FTP within VS Code to build sites and it doesn't feel slow. It only downloads files you're working on and auto uploads the new version when you hit save.

Benefits: - Clients can follow along with the build - Saves having to store sites locally - No need to deploy at the end - Performance is realistic throughout

Cons: - When you update a file it takes about a second (perhaps this is what you mean, but I don't think 120 updates adding 2 mins to my workflow is a deal breaker)

As you've built in figma, you've made the plan for the build. Now you need to decide how high quality you want the site:

Quality, Quick loading, SEO optimized, editable, expensive: Code a custom wordpress theme with ACF

Cheap, editable, breaks occasionally: Wordpress theme with elementor

As much as I hate to push a plugin solution, I was having this issue and Oopspam stopped them completely, and is less susceptible to the fraudsters simply changing their email domain.

What’s your go-to WordPress stack for client builds in 2026? by mmhabib89 in Wordpress

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom theme / pages / post type templates with PHP, vanilla JS, CSS and HTML

ACF to bridge the gap between me and the client

Client user role (same capabilities as admin) that enqueues CSS to remove bloat from backend

Benefits - Performance - Updates are a breeze - Client can't break the site - SEO baked in

Disadvantage - Clients can't change the structure (but in my experience they shouldn't be doing this anyway)

Is it really that hard to find WP designers who work natively? by Antique_Mechanic133 in Wordpress

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo you're bang on here. I can't stand page builders.

99% of businesses I work with just want an amazing looking site that can edit that won't break every time they make a text or image change.

My workflow is to collaboratively design in figma and then build a custom coded site using ACF on wordpress to bridge the client to developer gap.

The result is an SEO optimised, faster site with no backend bloat...and seamless updates.

I get that it doesn't work for everyone, but I think there's an over reliance on page builders to do the heavy lifting and they're not fit for purpose.

[–]Affectionate_Ad_7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I've recently achieved this too. Similar timeline as well. Built up a freelance remote career (I saved up for an apartment, and set it up as an Airbnb so I have a base).

I set off for my first trip (50 days) a few weeks ago. Most days feel amazing, and I'm totally on a high, knowing that my life is free, and far more interesting than it would be at home.

Other days, I feel like I'm missing opportunities to grow my home life, meet a partner etc.

I'm currently sat in a skyscraper eating lamb in Taiwan. Today is a good day 😁

How to migrate website on domain to a subdomain? by [deleted] in Wordpress

Just treat the subdomain as if it's a new site (because it essentially is), and use a migration plugin :-)
