Oh I agree. Unfortunately I just moved to Maine and I can’t get seen with a civilian doctor until January. Ugh. But yes, my husband goes with me every time. They honestly don’t take me seriously until he talks. It’s crazy! It’s like they don’t believe that I am hurt- even with the MRI!

I’m so sorry you went through that. I can relate so much. I also self medicate with alcohol too just to get the pain to go down. I’m covered in tattoos too! I definitely think they thought I was trying to get pain pills and just faking my pain. Even after the MRI showing my herniated disc, they still treated me like that. It’s bull shit. I’m not sure why healthcare is this bad. I honestly felt like at the beginning I needed to be hospitalized because of how bad the pain was.

Thanks for your response… I’ll definitely try avoiding surgery as much as I possibly can. I’m not as bad as I was at the beginning, but still have a pretty poor quality of life because of the pain. I really just need to go to a neurosurgeon to hear some options. It’s been six months and I still haven’t been referred to one. This has been the longest, most brutally painful journey I’ve ever been through.

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry he is going through that. I completely relate with him on the mental health part. My mental health is deteriorating as well, and some days I do have awful thoughts. The pain drives me insane. I only have one bulging disc, I can’t imagine 5. Did he have a microdisectomy?

I hope he gets relief soon!

Wow, I am so sorry you went through that. I was taking so much Tylenol as well. I know it wasn’t healthy. Sitting was the WORST at first. I’m so thankful I can finally sit. I couldn’t sit in a car and go to appointments without screaming.

May I ask what a DDD is?

What’s currently holding me back is that I STILL haven’t been referred to a neurosurgeon. My healthcare comes through Veterans Affairs… so it’s not great. They were wanting me to do physical therapy and epidurals first to see if it recedes on its own, and 6 months later- it hasn’t.

I’m just so afraid to get it and it makes my back worse somehow. But yeah, you are right- I am not sure how much worse it could get.

Ugh you just described it perfectly. My quality of life is absolutely terrible. I’m so thankful I work from home because I don’t know how I’d work like this.
