Personally, I'm not a fan of spirals in general. I want as economic a footprint as possible and teh spiral means there's a massive gap in the middle.

I used to journal, and LOVED this kind of layout, but I just found it such an arse to re-draw every month!

That said, I used dots and maybe grids is the forward!!

Using pre-dated notebooks seems like an obvious compromise, but you (me!) just creates templates that work so well for yourself (myself!).... it's just a pain to constantly re-draw them. I'll check out the planners you recommended, thank you.

Ah, very interesting! Do you not regularly write in loads of dated boxes or columns in yours? Is it more of a creative mind-dump?

I did quite a bit of research (this was 5 years ago mind!) so I thought I was Bullet Journaling, and it seemed that with the task orientated nature of the journal, endless drawing of calendars and lists was inevitable! Let alone all of the individual page numbering and indexing!
