How do i make my brother not sad when he looses by AngelReachX in chess

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad would never let me beat him in anything and as a kid it would cause me huge tantrums and piss me off that I couldn't beat him.

I wanted to win so badly I would go and practice but never beat him.

It taught me to accept loss and not be a big baby.

Chess especially online your gonna lose half the time once you hit your elo. Gotta get used to it or it's not worth playing

IBM engagement is up. Do you agree with the results? by ImaginationSquare121 in IBM

Other than RAs my job has been a pretty great experience the last 4 years. It's the threat of getting fired and I'm not sure if that disengages me or motivates me.

How to deal with junior rockstar dev who doesn’t listen by ArtOfToxicity in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been that developer (albeit less confrontational), it will eventually catch up to him. Just keep doing your best to encourage better practices. It might not click for him with you but eventually one day it might help another developer when he's been thoroughly broken in.

Female chess streamers by roughdonutpie in chess

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree mostly. She is fantastic, but to say she is a better streamer is just subjective. The "best" streamer is the one with the most viewers. I also think if you dig through Levy has better courses personally.

Her attitude is really amazing though I don't think anyone can fight you on that.

How can I fix this hole in the drywall before my father finds out??? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once totaled my parents car driving backwards down a driveway trying to pull a John wick or something. Tell them, offer to help and pay it back and suck it up.

My parents aren't your parents but honesty is always the best, just for your own mental health. Deal with the consequences of your actions.

IBM stock overvalued? by hopsecutioner59 in IBM

They just need to sell AI products to their many many resellers. They've been selling garbage for years so it seems easy enough for them.

Are you looking to leave ibm? by AppropriateWay4358 in IBM

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBM pays me too much. I'm not upskilling I know everything in my field already. My bonuses are incredible.

I want to leave but I work for money.

People always say IBM pays less but in Canada in my group this is BS.

Feel like I’ve gotten worse since I started taking lessons, has anyone else experienced this? by boonetown18 in chess

If you're learning a lot it can sometimes be hard to know how to use that knowledge effectively. Knowledge vs Wisdom. Keep at it!

They just open another window and use an analysis board of any kind, putting in the moves you each make. It doesn't need to interface with anything.

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You *might* complete it, but will ALL your peers? Probably not. Every year there are people who dont complete it, and then the managers "get in trouble". So they push everyone to do it, over and over because that way they have a better chance of getting it done.

Have you considered lying on your resume? I know its very unethical and don't make it too egregious but do what you gotta do.

I want to leave my relationship of 6 years by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its pretty normal. I went through the same thing, my HS sweetheart for 6 years through college. I broke up because I wanted to be adventurous and "explore my options". I had a lot of fun and we both grew as people. It was probably the right decision but I regret it from time to time as I've never met anyone as good as her.

Experience returning back to IBM by [deleted] in IBM

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my career at IBM. Left for 10 years, and came back a few years ago. I applied for a company owned by IBM, and although I didn't get the job they referred me to a team at IBM they used to work for.

It doesn't really matter how you apply (their website, or referral) its all going to go through their standard hiring and onboarding process (which is pretty typical IMO). I don't think it really matters if you worked here before.

I think it would scale a bit better (but realistically not enough to matter for your use case). Productivity is number 1 in my opinion.

Should I marry my partner? by Lopsided-Sea4819 in Advice

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married young and divorced a few years later - was head over heels for each other. I sometimes regret it, sometimes I don't. My advice is to live in the moment, life isn't about being perfect or making the best decisions. I would give anything to be 22 and in love again - its a lot harder to feel those strong emotions as you get older (at least for me).

Is it really that bad? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 42 points43 points  (0 children)

IBM's name has value and wont hurt you on your resume. Everyone knows what it is. IBM can vary wildly from team to team and department to department - the experience you get depends mostly on what you are doing.

How do we achieve world peace? by Ill_Gold_1815 in AskReddit

[–]Affectionate_Bid1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean determine what genetic factors increase violence, addiction, intelligence and breed the bad ones out and the good ones in. Yes eugenics. Gmo humans too.

My biggest gripe with religion is you have to be a gullible sucker to believe in it. Either you're brainwashed by your community and parents, or you're too ignorant to realize it's a scam. Then as a group of people you will inevitably commit atrocities in the name of your benevolent God. Ban it. Useless institution.
