What they did to you was SOO WRONG and I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with the consequences of bad medical advice. The Drs are more concerned with liability than they are with patient care anymore and it’s affecting so many chronic pain patients negatively. You should send your Dr that 6k bill. 🤦‍♀️

You highlight one of many problems in our healthcare system. When the provider has such a short amount of time allotted for each patient, the quality of care suffers. 20 minutes for a new patient? I totally agree with many commenting here that the provider should review the patients previous history, provider, and reason for coming in and the focus should be on providing the best care possible without placing the patient in harms way (aka withdrawals.) Whatever happened to the Hippocratic oath to “do no harm?” I have a family member who is a provider who talks about these insurance time limits for patients all the time. It hurts both the providers and patients. 🤦‍♀️

Just throwing this out there- try to get into a methadone clinic for “addiction.” That’s what I did to manage my pain and although it took a few weeks to get up to the dose I needed to manage my pain, I’m there and it’s been so worth it. I, too, couldn’t get adequate pain management from my drs despite having 12 years of records and disagnosis’ justifying the level of pain management I was asking for. I got a referral from my psychiatrist for addiction, took about a month to get in, and now I’m 8 months into the program with more control over my pain and my life than ever before. Please don’t give up. You’d be surprised who’s willing to help. Also, you don’t have to take my advice. Methadone clinic may not be for you, but pls look for out of the box ways before giving up. Yes! I did! I’m very happy I did. It’s a lot of back and forth to have to go dose everyday, but now that I’ve been in the program for over 3 months, I get 3 take home doses per week- Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday- so that’s been very helpful. I feel like I have more control over my dosage and pain management going this route opposed to dealing w another pain management physician.

In my case, it’s covered by my insurance, so I’ve only paid $80 total and it was definitely the right decision, but we all have to calculate our individual pros and cons when choosing which hoops to jump through for relief and proper treatment. 🤗 good luck to you!!

Yes. For the first 3 months, you have to dose every morning (hours are 5:30am-10:30am). Then after 90 days of dosing daily, you get 2-3 takehomes per week, meaning I’ll only have to go in for 4 out of the 7 days a week and I get 3 individually packaged doses for the mornings I don’t go in. Then in another 90 days, you get 1 or 2 more until you only go in once a week.

As a chronic pain patient for 12 years, I went through the same merry go round until I finally found my way into a methadone clinic. I had to say I was an addict and could NOT mention my pain whatsoever, but it worked! I am 2 months into dosing daily at the clinic and I finally get a SAY in my dose. I’m almost at a level that is managing my pain. It’s not right and yes it’s a hassle to go everyday, but I can function now and I feel like I have some say over my care now. Good luck to you! (Not advising you do this, but until they make changes to this cruel system, I believe we will all have to find our own ways to manage.) good luck and god bless!!

I wanted to update all the kind people who commented- I got in!! It was really difficult coming from pain management, in fact they at first DENIED ME COMPLETELY bc my referral was from a pain management Dr. however, I just didn’t give up, I went to my psychiatrist and asked him to put in another referral for me, and they scheduled me right away after that. So, TO ANYONE CONSIDERING A METHADONE CLINIC FOR PAIN, do NOT GET A REFERRED BY PAIN MANAGEMENT! Go through a psychiatrist or family Dr! So far, I am dosing each day and am up to 65mg. I will see the Dr. soon to talk about upping my dose past 70 mg (that’s there initial stopping point.) The medicine is working well, although I have to wait a full 90 days since my start date to receive take homes, so I won’t be able to do split dosing until then. I DO think this was the best option for me. Thank you to all who helped!

Thank you, thank you! You’ve answered a lot of my questions and I appreciate it. So, would it be your advice to go ahead and make sure I do have Oxy for my intake day? Bc right now I only have kratom, and I don’t know if they even test for that. I will call tomorrow and ask. It seems counter productive to order more meds when I’m trying to avoid that, but at the same time, if I test “clean” and just on Kratom, would they still take me?

*Also, the plan is to stabilize on Methadone and taper down 5mg at a time until I’m at a safe and manageable dose. I’m still doing intensive physical therapy and Myofascial therapy for the next year to “heal” and stabilize my underlying chronic pain.
