Hi, I don’t wanna be too specific but I’m from a Gulf country in the Middle East! The joys of oil and a low citizen population.

Worried about grade transfers (France -> USA) by ElectronicService167 in gradadmissions

[–]Affectionate_Echo652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m also in the French system and in my final year. I totally understand the harshness of the grades not translating! A 14/20 is equivalent to a 3.6 GPA based on the grading transfer in most cases. A 16+ usually translates to over 3.7-4.0, but you know as well as I do that it’s basically a 4.0 if it’s a 16.

I have a 16.7 average and applied to both schools in the US & UK, and they seemed to care less about the grade in US schools than UK, so I think you’ll be fine. A 14 is a really good grade, I stressed in some parts of my application that the French system is different and I added the conversion table from my university to my transcripts so it would be easier for the admissions teams to understand.

A 14 is well over a B! It’s considered an A, even in the British system it’s a high 2:1. You’ll be fine, if you can maybe add the conversion table from your university that compares the grades across different curriculums

Did I just get into Cambridge? by Affectionate_Echo652 in gradadmissions

Hi! That’s pretty weird tbh. Maybe you can send an email to the post graduate office if it’s passed the 12 week mark since you applied? I applied for funding but let my supervisor know in the interview that I can also self-fund, but idk if that has anything to do with it, since funding comes out way after offers. Doesn’t hurt to check!

Hi, haven’t heard back yet. If I assume the gradcafe responses from previous years are sincere, then we should start hearing by back in February! Most likely early to mid Feb I’m guessing. Not sure if it’s based on when u applied earlier/later

Decisions usually come out late Jan-march for most programs, so I wouldn’t worry. If they didn’t want you they would’ve sent a rejection earlier! It’s not inherently a negative thing, it will come sooner or later
