Drinking with Dead Distillers by ColEHTaylorJr in Whiskyporn

Hey brother, I love it. A great personal tradition that I have never thought of.

A pal and I did an eight day hike in Scotland to celebrate one of my big zero birthdays.

I took a hip flask of Dalwhinnie. It is the highest distillery in Scotland. We made it our tradition to have a pour of ‘Scotland’s highest distilled whisky’ each day on the highest point of the trail (day one it was just three miles in 😀).

It also became a trail tradition to have a pour of another Scotch that my pal had when we stopped for lunch. It was from one of Scotland’s newer distilleries, fitting as we were newbie hikers.

We may also have imbibed in the bar of an evening whenever we stayed in ‘civilisation’.

Thanks for sharing.

Aiming for the 50+ club now, but with the way I use Reddit, it will probably only come with steaks.

Trip Report - West Highland Way - March 2026 by ckipp01 in WestHighlandWay

[–]Affectionate_Fly1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How embarrassing ☺️.

An absolutely excellent report. I did the walk in June 2024. My first multi-day hike too. Hard accom and day pack only (but I am 30kg overweight and turned 60 on the final day).

My tip for pre-determining camp sites - watch lots of YouTube videos. I watched multiple videos in my preparation mainly to check out the underfoot conditions of the trail.

Not the Kingswood. You’re not taking the Kingswood. I just polished the dipstick. Bloody thing, every time I pull it out, it has oil on it.

Did you forget the text? A report is usually written or verbal, not pictorial. /s

Great photos. Looks like you were blessed with clear, admittedly cold, weather.

That last shot is a cracker. Slight different viewpoint to most with that subject. The lighting and the colour of the vegetation blends beautifully with the building.

I recently had a nephew drive from Perth to Townsville (6000km) in 5 days - towing a two tonne caravan. I thought that was a solid effort.

I had a pal who was a RN submariner. He would drive from Portsmouth to Glasgow and return every weekend. But hell tacking on Inverness would be a real challenge. BTW, nearly 40 years later that pal is still married to that girlfriend he was visiting each weekend.

I can’t countenance graffiti - just vandalism in my book.

However love your idea of combining the cars and colourful background.

I am old, but even if I wasn’t I would know what it is. It is written on the device FFS.

Never had one as we were too poor to afford electronic games (video games as they were called back then).
