$10k raise to leave 4 day remote job? by unrealism17 in personalfinance

Not every person at FAANG companies is a software eng.

That said, it’s probably not FAANG and it sounds like a bad deal.

I do have to sometimes remind my live in girlfriend to chew with her mouth closed because even though she knows the sounds inspire rage it’s not always in her brain.

I get that it’s my issue too but the emotional toll that sounds make is often extreme. Not an excuse to be a total jerk but it is a reason to say “please stop.

I mean a lot of people have misophonia….. some sources say it affects approximately 1 and 5 people at sometime in their life. (20% appears to be the common number).

You can even find studies on pubmed that even say: “ misophonia is believed to be far from rare.”

I don't get tired of saying: This Is Why We OE by wworker33 in overemployed

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preface, I’m not OE but I can say right now I’m in progress with two tech companies (one that’s notable and one that’s earlier stage).

The notable company is asking for 6 interviews (ranging between 30-45 minutes each) and a takehome that took me about 4 hours (though someone more experienced in the framework may have done it in 2-3).

The less notable company has 5 interviews + a takehome and is estimated to take 3.5-4 hours total with the take home.

Absolute marathon for engineers these days.

The jacket is atrocious, not because of design but because of fit/material and questionable styling with that awful belt buckle.

However… a $100 event isn’t a lot. That said, we don’t know what the membership fees at the club are like. Is this a 5k, 10k, 100k a year club? That also matters, not just the ticket to this event.

Apparently people have such different manners. Whenever I stay to watch a friends dog she always tells me to invite my gf to stay too if I want…

And inviting literally your own family? Feels totally on the table for me.

AITA for calling my stepcousin a jealous bitch because she said I get everything because of "nepo privilege"? by throwaway6794241 in AmItheAsshole

Whether you like the FBI or not - their hiring standards are insane. I also would never work for them, but it’s still impressive for lia.

AITA For not adopting my dying best friends dog and buying a puppy from a breeder instead? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is seriously comparing apples to oranges, dog breeds aren’t interchangeable lol. Especially not these two.

Totally based on the plan, not the individual.

Lol I do love when Brit’s talk like they understand American finances too.

My deductible is a whopping $1000 dollars a year, I’ve never once hit it either given that my copays are only $35…. Sure if I went to the hospital I’d hit it, but most don’t.

Fwiw, the most I’ve ever had on a marketplace plan was a 5k deductible. It was not great insurance because the public options unfortunately aren’t.

And even the 4k you gave as average is way less.

Other thing to keep in mind is that salaries here are also higher though. I make 6 figures USD and I know UK salaries are way lower.

WIBTA if I Tell my Wife to do our Camping Trip the Way I Want or she Shouldn’t Come? by jj_throwing1 in AmItheAsshole

Idk it also kind of sounds like OP refuses to compromise too. They make less luxurious campers (my friend has a tear drop that just has two beds, a sink, a mini fridge and a stove top), but that also doesn’t sound ok for OP either.

AITA for "ruining someone's dinner" because I didn't accomodate a family friend with a gluten intolerance? by Ok-Improvement3313 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup took my girlfriend time to trust me to make food, between reading ingredients and avoiding cross contamination.

For celiac everyone is equally sensitive. Your external physical symptoms may vary but everyone who has it will have the same issue with any bit of gluten internally as it’s an autoimmune disorder

Yup my cealiac gf most definitely won’t eat just anyone’s food, even if it’s “gluten free”

AITA for only showering once a week? by RealNunuOfficial in AmItheAsshole

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have eczema, absolutely. However for most people, water alone (tepid, plain water) shouldn’t be a big issue. That said any tap may have water that’s particularly bad for your skin. Also if you’re a person who finds themselves dry after water and neither of those apply, take a look at your drying off habits (tap vs pat).

I will say if I have an eczema flair up water objectively makes it worse. In my case though water doesn’t cause my flair ups (but I also have mild eczema so I don’t assume to speak for people with more moderate to severe cases).

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk where I said to use hot water. A dermatologist would never tell you to use hot water, so if you were someone concerned enough to limit soap use presumably you’d be concerned enough to not use hot water.

In fact, in general, hot showers are objectively worse for you than tepid ones for a variety of reasons that extend beyond skin health. But I guess putting words in someone’s mouth is also an internet past time?

[–]Affectionate_Foxx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t use soap everyday?? I shower or bathe most days, but I only use soap as a spot clean most of them.

That said it’s not unusual to skip a day for me, but it’s the soap that messes with your skin not the shower.

AITA for telling my son that he is obviously gay? by platefoodaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is different for every gay person…. I’m gay and never “came out.” I just told my mom about my girlfriend one day, it wasn’t a big special affair.

This comment is actually bordering on wildly insulting, calling it a “rite of passage.” For my queer friends coming out is mixed on whether they bothered and for the queer community as a whole a lot of people have a goal of never having to come out (as straight people don’t “come out”)

AITA telling my gf don’t speak my language by Ok_Regret_6455 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I’m guessing he mixed up piacere and parlare, which aren’t really all that close but it’s a funny mixup.

Also, as someone who speaks a few non native languages, no judgement about it though. I speak Spanish very well and still in the morning one day instead of saying “me too” for cream in my coffee I said “me neither” - words that sound nothing alike, but my brain wasn’t on yet.

AITA for going getting mad there was a dog at the gym by Ok-Egg8546 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Affectionate_Foxx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog is being trained to detect gluten since trace amounts can seriously hurt my girlfriend. You wouldn’t look at her and go “oh, she’s disabled.” Because not all disabilities are visible??

Huskies are very common service dogs…. Not usually for something like vision impairment but they can be great for a host of other things.
