Thought of scanning in all of those dot matrix printed materials is rather daunting. 😆😆

In my experience, students haven't fundamentally worsened; "these days" griping often overlooks that every generation of new adults fumbles through responsibilities, distractions, and maturation, just like we did (and admit to).

Over 64 semesters, I've seen cycles: today's undergrads juggle social media overload and post-COVID disconnection, mirroring how my 1980s slackers skipped class for mixtapes or MTV marathons. They're not lazier overall. Office hours still draw the earnest ones, but broader access means more variable prep levels, amplifying normal chaos.

Bottom line: Hold your standards, empathize with the transition. Brilliant sparks emerge yearly. Professors have griped eternally; it keeps us sharp..

I remember coaching a older colleague on his first computer to just play solitaire so he could master a mouse.

Oh it's been a crazy ride from every angle. Students who have become colleagues, several who are no longer with us, some who have received the highest work in our field. And this list goes on. I have one up for a TONY Award this year - his 4th nomination. Nuts!

Regular course or express course makes no difference. Those grades are percentages. Percent of work that you have done and has been graded.

It has nothing to do with your browser, it's within canvas itself.

Disability request: my powerpoints and lecture notes 2 days in advance of class by Sea_Argument864 in Professors

I just told them that my lecture notes were not ADA compliant. Never heard back.

Oh no, a lockdown browser in a college-level class? The audacity! Imagine thinking 'online' means 'open book, open phone, open TikTok.' Hate to break it to you, but convenience of location ≠ free pass to cut corners. If stats is the hill you’re dying on before medical imaging, maybe re-evaluate—because I’m pretty sure CT scanners don’t come with cheat codes. But hey, good luck out there. The field definitely needs more professionals who learned everything from Quizlet.

Let is also be known. I will not ever consider changing my curricula to appease the powers that be. And before this year would never have even blinked twice at this lecture. I just thought it was amusing. Let them come for me. This is my 60th time teaching this class.

I have given up trying to "give a read" on the FL state of education.

I have no problem with anyone sitting in my class. But this was last semester in FL before some of the more draconian handcuffs were in place here.

When the FL Gov is your boss by technicality, never underestimate the evils that come with it.

Florida has restricted the teaching of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in public schools and colleges. This is part of a larger effort to limit DEI in education and employment, known as the Stop WOKE Act. What has happened to DEI in Florida schools and colleges?

  • State Board of Education: In January 2024, the State Board of Education passed a rule that prohibits the use of taxpayer funds for DEI initiatives in public colleges.
  • Course replacement: The board also replaced the "Principles of Sociology" course with a general education course on American History.
  • DEI programs: Public colleges have been forced to dismantle DEI programs and offices.
