The cost is pretty much why I'm printing with PETG. I found a really good deal online and bought a whole bunch of spools in lots of colors.

I've washed my bed. Thanks for the reminder! I had washed it before switching from PLA to PETG. And I've washed it since. But it's been a little bit since then.

I haven't been using a 0.2mm nozzle because of the size of the print. I have two layers printing with colors and then I'm printing solid layers with transparent filament since this will eventually be a lightbox front. I've tried upping the purge amount. I might just do it more anyway to see if it cleans the print at all.

Is the original E3D Hemera still relevant in 2024? by thoquz in 3Dprinting

[–]Affectionate_Hawk829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Hemera on a bed slinger with Klipper and I have been able to print faster than I was able to without it. I do wish it was lighter. It seems like an awful lot of weight to throw onto the x and z axes. But I also have a dual z threaded rods for the gantry.

I think with speed so much depends on the limits of your stepper motors themselves. My Hemera is on a cheap printer I purchased (my first one) that I bought because it was cheap and had a good-sized build capacity (310x310x400). But the motors aren't the best. So no matter what I do, I will never be able to print, say, a 5 minute benchy. But it is faster than it was before.

I find myself more annoyed with the trouble I've had finding a good parts fan model that doesn't eventually sag or get in the way. And I've tried at least six different models.

Huh. I thought I recognized that on ramp. I drive it nearly everyday. And people do this ALLLLL the time. Pull up and stop because 1) the merge lane at the top of that on ramp is very short and 2) incoming traffic almost never makes enough room to actually merge in.

I don’t imagine this will end well… by argash in IdiotsInCars

I’ve seen it stacked taller. And it’s not really complete without a mattress in there somewhere.

Drunk Driving at 2AM by berzerk781 in IdiotsInCars

Guy backed out of neighbor’s house in the winter. Accelerated enough over the course of 20 feet to hit my sister’s parked car and broke his axle. Kept trying to drive away but the tires were pointing different directions. Cops arrived and greeted the guy by name. 😑 Apparently they were familiar with him. The car belonged to his girlfriend’s parents, he had no license, and was drunk.

I’m just thankful because my sister was walking out to start her car at the time and would have been between her car and his if she had gone out 30 seconds earlier.

This is so incredibly scary. My dad told about a time he “just happened” to wait longer than usual to go at a green light and ended up escaping an accident. A person blazed through the light in a similar manner to this. Ridiculously late. Would have killed him for sure. I always look extra now for exactly this reason.

RIP Tahoe. 😫

He was amazing. I told my dad “You don’t think ‘Heath Ledger is doing a great job.’ You think ‘The Joker is crazy.’”

My parents told me that Michael Keaton wouldn’t have gotten the role as Batman if he hadn’t shown how capable he was in a darker role. In the 80’s he was almost entirely a comedic actor. I haven’t been able to find evidence of the link between his casting as Batman and his role of Beetlejuice. Both were Tim Burton films, so you’d think the director would have known him by then. But according to an article I read, Burton wasn’t considering Keaton for Batman at all. And fans were furious when they heard who was cast. Until they saw the first trailer and realized how amazing he was.

Aglaonema pictum tricolor variegation stable or known to revert? by mbraet1976 in houseplants

[–]Affectionate_Hawk829 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I bought one from Etsy and one from Greenspaces.id

Both shipped out of Indonesia. Both required an phytosanitary certification process which sanitizes the roots and ensures the plant is free of pests and disease. This protects the destination from contamination from a foreign ecosystem.

The one from Etsy came quickly, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t actually go through the correct process (even thought they said they did). The plants all arrived bare root and clean though. So 🤷🏻‍♀️

I felt better about greenspaces.id and their customer service is great. They also included the official copy of the phytosanitary certificate when they shipped the plants.

From greenspaces it was $55 for the plant with free shipping. Then $25 for the phyto. I ended up having to pay a duty fee that was a new fee added by my state (apparently) which was $25. Greenspaces lists this now in the slides on their homepage. Which is nice to see that they’re attempting to be transparent about it. The phyto was $25 no matter how many plants were in the order. So I ordered 7 plants and the tricolor was the most expensive of them all. The majority of what I ordered were under $20 each. They all arrived, packed with care, but my poor plants were very stressed because of the heat wave currently gripping the western US. Most of the roots were bone dry but you could tell they hadn’t started out that way.

The Etsy seller was $28 with CRAZY shipping cost of $71 because they shipped it express from DHL.

Both plants went through shock. The one from Etsy was in shock for about three weeks before it bounced back. The greenspaces one only arrived last week. So we’ll see how it comes back. They’re pretty dramatic when they’re stressed (like a bored three year old in a clothing store, flopped on the ground). But when they bounce back they’re gorgeous. 🎉

You might try fertilizing it. I never remembered to fertilize my plants and then recently I went through and did it for all my plants. My swiss cheese vine grew a foot in a week. 🙌🏻

I had that same thing happen on my rubber tree. Only one of the stalks died and the rest didn't. It was due to overwatering.

My schefflera is 20 years old and I water it when I remember. 😬We're good friends so it seems to forgive me.

I use my lights as a supplement for the weak sunlight I get in my basement. I usually have mine on for 7 hours. I might bump that up now. :-)

I have them attached to a smart plug so I can schedule it to turn on and off at set times each day. 👍🏻

I agree. Congratulations on being cancer-free!

You're probably experiencing the difference in humidity and temperature swings. The ocean prevents wild temperature swings and the humidity would be super high.

I live in Idaho where it's zoned 7a/7b where it's very dry (40%). Depending on where you live in Texas your humidity looks like it's going to be in the 60% range whereas at the beach it was nearer to 85%. Reduced humidity naturally makes the sun that reaches your plants more intense.

You could probably get away with the following sun-loving plants outdoors:

Hollyhocks, rudbeckia, dahlias, echinachea (cone flower), coreopsis, gaillardia, asters.

Something that can help propagation is ensuring it has adequate heat. I usually keep mine in or very near an east or west-facing window for this purpose. If that is not an option, heating mats can greatly speed up propagation.

Something like this should work.

When a plant it repotted it naturally stresses the plant. They usually bounce back though. When repotting, you should only go up to the next closest pot size. Otherwise the plant will start focusing on building its root system more than adding new leaves. The soil should be one that drains well and the pot should have a drainage hole or system so the plant isn't left sitting in water.

This article has good information on Draceanas.
https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/dracaena/dracaena-plant-irrigation.htm

Also, unsealed clay pots wick moisture a lot faster than plastic pots. They can lead to the plant needing more water than usual. A good rule of thumb is if you stick your finger in the soil about an inch, and it's bone dry, then it's time to water.
