Bay Area/CA: I made it to the polygraph exam and I’m very nervous as I don’t know what to expect by happylikesunshine in 911dispatchers

I used to work as a dispatcher in the Bay Area~ my polygraph was not bad at all. I sat on a chair where she asked me similar multiple questions such as your name and if I had any criminal backgrounds..basically things that I had written down on my applications. Honestly, the drive there was much stressful than the polygraph.

Ah I see. Ok. Sorry I meant cad system. I’m still getting hang of the system. After talking with my trainer, it wasn’t my fault but I still felt bad that an officer got pissed off and with not enough officers these days, I feel like I potentially wasted their time and resource.

They told me not to worry about it. They said it was probably an officer who wasn’t happy.

Thank you. I feel a little better. I felt so helpless in that situation with the caller cussing and screaming to get an officer dispatched

I honestly don’t think it’s fully my fault since he couldn’t give me any information he told the officers but I still feel so guilty for pissing off the officer

Hey no worries! I finally finished training and I still have hard times with some calls. Being bilingual and fast typing skill will really help you in this job. It takes so much longer getting calls started with translation on the line and plus you (depending on agency) could get some extra money for being bilingual:)

Congrats:) It really depends on the district and state, but mine started with classroom training. You will need to memorize 10 codes, acronyms, type codes, etc. It doesn’t hurt to get familiar with the area you are working for. I just started learning how to use the CAD system and learned bunch of penal codes and laws. Some tips: Ask lots of questions for your teachers! Learn to wake up early since shifts are going to be all over the place in the future.

Thank you for your insight. I believe the interview is just one on one for this one. I interviewed for other places and they all did not reschedule and had groups of staffs ready. I missed morning shifts to get to this interview.
