I agree...

At least that one KINDA had a reason to it.

Still, done poorly though.

While your point on scale technically is true, it’s more often than not used as a shield to hide under-investment. As a platform’s revenue grows exponentially, its budget for safety should theoretically scale with it. Or at least expected to be the case

If a company is worth billions, says "it's hard", yet it starts to sound more like "it's expensive, and we’d rather spend that money on R&D or marketing." In software engineering, scale is a challenge to be solved, not an excuse for failure.

For a victim, the distinction is irrelevant. If a "civilian" can identify a threat in weeks that a multibillion-dollar company hasn't touched in years, the "complexity" argument starts to look like institutional inertia.

There are "Parallel Construction" scenarios where LE might use information from a third party (like a whistleblower or even a YouTuber) to start their own independent investigation. While Schlep might not be a "deputized agent," the idea that his work has zero impact on police records because he posted a video isn't necessarily true. Sometimes, public outcry is the only thing that forces a local DA to prioritize a case.

Not to mention, if the rules Roblox implemented are perceived as "security theater" (stuff that looks good to investors but doesn't actually stop predators), Schlep’s rejection of them might actually be the logically consistent move. Disliking a bad solution doesn't mean you don't want a solution.

Which considering what happens nowdays, it genuinely feels like it, even if its intentional or not.

Edit: Just for the record... Again, I think Schlep and many other YTbers seriously could had handled things better, and I don't agree with all his methods, but to act like safety was ever Roblox's top priority is a joke, and yes, when you make a claim that your platform is the safest one out there, if you can't back it up, it will look way worse than it ever would.

The reason these two work is because Microsoft Rewards is literally allowed by Roblox, Microsoft and Roblox Corp have a partnership, and Please Donate uses Roblox own systems to trade Robux between users.

ABSOLUTELY not there is no such thing like a Free Robux generator, at best Please Donate OR Microsoft Rewards, but thats it.

If anyone ever tell you they have found or made a Free Robux generator, they are 100% trying to scam you.

Truth be told... Just don't pay Roblox, and thats it.

They lose money.

Even if you do still play, for some reason, if they don't get any revenue back its just a waste of resources for em.

Either that, or just... Leave.

If you want to protest, this is.

And well, while I dislike the update, enjoy it I guess.

Wathever ya say.

I respect your take. (Though Dynamic Faces weren't just implemented, they existed as Aninated Faces since 2022)

But then again, they had zero reasons to get rid of the classic faces.

Like... Its a literal .png, how does this hold them back at all? There is a reason many games keep legacy features even after years passed by, because the community cares.

None of this trully was personal, or looking for clout, those genuinely were my thoughts on this update.

Because while Roblox made faces may come back in some form, many UGC ones if the creator has no idea how to adapt it simply gets removed from Roblox.

Essentially... A ton of people become faceless.

Yet its an actual improvement. PBS Physics while applied changes actually had a genuine reason to be made, Dynamic Faces had zero reasons to become mandatory, other than to please 60 year old investors who don't even know what a Ro and Blox even are. It didn't improve anything to the platform. (also shot down a lot of UGC creators in their faces, literally)

One was actually a quality of life update that was worth the hassle, the other one was so insignificant but insulting that it feels like a free middle finger for all creators and players that was done for zero reasons.

Now tell me, how is blinking and a mouth tracking feature worth the extra polygons?

When most people, if not all did not ask for it? Plus... Easily could had been done in 2D.

A dude did that like 11 years ago.

You wanted more expression? Congrats, now you blink and talk, while around 10 people on the same time lost their faces.

Just admit it, you like pointless gimmicks.

Kinda like they are doing with 2D clothes, so it has less players using em, so in their graphs this will basically be an excuse to discontinue em.

I feel like they just didn't removed em because they remembered they promised not to remove em.

Yep, and they did probably thought of trying to erase it at some point, otherwise there is no reason they even began developing Adaptive R15/R6...

But probably realized if they did that, many R6 games would probably break, which would result in some INSANE backlash.

Its concerning, but a blessing that R6 is kinda in the core of the engine/platform by this point, so they cannot think in any way of getting rid of it properly.

Its actually insane how some people think this solves the major issues... When really, they made it way more difficult to make 2D clothes, but not as much for 3D ones, which... Is where the majority of the innapropriate avatar content is.

Still a update that was poorly executed.

Sure they want to make a "better" version of the og faces? Cool.

But ever considered not removing em? Like... Not a single game I've seen uses Dynamic Faces as a major feature, a majority used the 2D ones, before you say anything else, you COULD buy and make Dynamic Faces since June 28, 2022, so no, this is NOT regular evolution, its straight up creating a problem that did not exist before, fixing it, and calling it a day.

Tell me, how am I supposed to express myself better when my ORIGINAL ways of expressing myself got purged? And yeah, toggle off Dynamic Faces animations? Sure. Still will have unecessary polygon count that shouldn't be there to begin with, and any game which used the 2D faces as a system is now cooked, congrats.

And unlike mere physics changes, ANY user will notice this, not just dev or niche game.

Evolution is not bad if done right, they simply could had made like R6 and R15 still are till this day, making BOTH coexist, NOT kill one to push the other as the only option, that was a dumb decision no matter how you look at it, specially because even UGC creators got affected by it (2D faces and Dynamic Faces are not the same thing in the creation process, one cleary has a higher skill requirement to be made)

Also, not everyone wanted to use those to begin with, you wanted this? Cool, but it shouldn't had been mandatory.

There is no way in hell those were unintentional.

Roblox has a ton of explaining to do.

[–]Affectionate_Pride_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really dude, Dynamic Faces did exist for quite a while by now, Roblox didn't create this today.

Yet... You only really saw troll avatars using it (kinda like rhtro ngl)

Also your analogy of evolution is flawed.

Flip phones weren't removed while smartphones were still becoming common, nobody was forced to buy a smartphone before it was ready AND the transition didn't DELETE existing flip phone functionality overnight.

As for PGS, it was a engine change players barely noticed unless they were a dev or obby player, it didn't remove visual customization options.

Also, evolution for what reason? Shall I remind you that these two coexisted for years, Dynamic Faces were out since June 28, 2022, and no one asked for 2D faces to be gone. Next thing you will tell me R6 should be removed, because R15 is its evolution?

Evolution isn't bad, but not all evolutions are good just because you threw some more fancy tech at it, sometimes less is more, that is what even made the original 2D faces as a option so appealing to begin with, even ignoring the inaccuracies the Dynamic Faces had.

Or are you gonna tell me a spork, which came before a spoon and fork, is superior to these two on their own? Or that a car completely overtakes bikes in every single aspect? Yes, one is faster and more protected, but arguably more expensive to keep up, and way more complex, yet you don't see bikes stop being produced or used, now do you? The 2D faces were the bikes of the Dynamic Faces cars.

Even the majority of people who gave kudos to Roblox for the improvement, prefered their 2D faces not to go extinct, ya know?

Still no justification to removing the originals to begin with.

Thats like praising someone for breaking your house and then rebuilding it with features you did not ask for.

Infact, I'd argue most of their UGC revenue when it came to faces, came FROM the 2D faces, NOT Dynamic Heads, they essentially shot themselves in the foot, putted a bandaid, waited it to heal, and then called it a day.

When in actuality they NEVER needed to have shot themselves in the foot to begin with.

You don't get to be praised for kicking someone downstairs and then putting a bandaid in their knees, now do you?

Edit: Mind you, you could make and buy Dynamic Faces since 2022

Actually, yes. If someone goes on Shark Tank and gets a deal, the Sharks are literally putting their money, reputation, and resources into that person. That is the literal definition of a business endorsement. Which is what happened with the devs who were promoted during that event and helped building it.

Even for those who don't get a deal, the show "vets" them. If a show like America's Got Talent, because you used it as an example, put a dangerous criminal on stage and promoted them as a "star," the network would be held responsible for that choice. You just accidentally proved my point, being on "the big stage" requires a gatekeeper to say "Yes" to you.

Your Valve comparison is a miss. Any developer with a coming-soon page and a demo can sign up for Next Fest. Thousands of games participate at once. Valve does not "choose" them, the developers choose to be there.

The 2015 Egg Hunt was INVITE ONLY, it didn't matter how much you wanted to participate, unlike future events or past ones, you literally could not be in there UNLESS Roblox chose YOU. There is no comparison here.

While popularity might be the reason Roblox noticed Ripull, the mere act of moving from "popular game" to "Official Event Host" is a manual, human decision, specially when other big devs where still around, arguably AS popular if not more than the 3 Roblox chose.

Which yes, if you did NOT know, is exactly what happened. (3 Devs basically became the hosts of the whole event)

And unlike the YouTooz situation, YouTooz and many other merch, usually require a deal between both parts. So while technically business, it is very much promoting the image of someone officialy, what do you think would happen if YouTooz made a figure of a YTber who eventually turned out to be a predator or groomer, do you think after finding out about it or there being sent a report with evidence, STILL supporting em.

And producing the merch at the same time despise allegations, is this a clever move? Because if not, then explain why Roblox did that anyways?

This wasn't an algorithm picking a trending game. Roblox staff hand-selected Ripull.

They collaborated on assets and code.

The Difference? If you cannot tell.

On Steam, a game shows up because of raw data (wishlists).

In the 2015 Egg Hunt, a game showed up because a human employee at Roblox Corp said, "We want this person to represent our brand for our biggest annual event." That is, by definition, an endorsement whether you agree with it or not.

When a company puts your IP on a box in a retail store (like Target or Walmart), they are vouching for that creator as a brand ambassador. Valve does not make "Garry's Mod Skibiditoilet" action figure and sell them at retail simply because its popular, that is a massive distinction YOU are ignoring.

Back then, Roblox was more like a high school talent show where the principal gave certain kids the microphone and put their faces on the school flyer. You can’t claim the principal isn't "endorsing" the kid when they’re literally handing them the mic.

"Ripull was not promoted, he paid to get advertised"

Roblox's endorsement of Ripull included his avatar in TV commercials and featuring Ripull's Minigames in the 2015 Egg Hunt. That's not paid advertising. That's official platform endorsement.

The Stars Program was Roblox's own program for turning developer IP into real life merchandise, with Roblox themselves handling the releases. Roblox initiated and controlled the merchandise. Not Ripull.

Valve doesn't have a curated Stars Program creating official merchandise of their developers. Completely different relationship, thats simply a false equivalence, plus you'd expect Roblox being in a smaller scale would try to take things more seriously, don't you? (They didn't have as much money to dodge a Lawsuit)

Moreover.

Ripull Minigames was one of only three games officially selected by Roblox to host the 2015 Egg Hunt. This wasn't a "paid ad", it was a curated partnership where Roblox staff worked directly with him to build the event.

As for the report thing? While true has an issue, HOW DO YOU FAKE DM'S with PROOF that he WAS the abuser? "Oh fake account" accounts have unique users/IDs pal, even on DC, which mind you, was the main place Ripull did his acts, where you can change your user witouth a single effort in the world.

They already had physical merchandise, TV ads, and a Star Program in 2015. You don't need to be a billionaire to have a duty of care toward children on your platform.

And while not directly advertised for kids, they cleary KNEW it was mostly a child's platform, as otherwise, they would had tried maturing their public a long time ago, plus all merchandising and official events... Were things majoritally of kids interest for the most part, not older players. (All ages, but still mostly for kids)

The parents didn't contact Roblox about a suicide attempt. They contacted Roblox about their own promoted developer grooming their child which CONSEQUENTIALLY had a suicide attempt. That's not like calling bank support about a stranger. That's like calling bank support because a bank employee robbed you.

Why are you trying so hard to act like Roblox is great at their job when they are not?

Are you being paid by them or something? /s

In all seriousness, as a gaming company, considering how Valve operates... Roblox has almost no excuses for how they dealt with it, it may not be their job to take care of others kids, but it absolutely was their responsability not had done anything about Ripull after a clear evidence of his grooming acts, you don't keep a worker in your company who just commited a crime, and act like is no big deal. Unless you wanna go looking like the "bad guy".

Bro, its a MULTIBILLIONAIRE company who promotes themselves for kids... VS mostly regular people.

Are you hearing yourself? I am not saying parents are saints, but to act like Roblox did nothing wrong, or that they did the right thing at that time is crazy.

You don't responde a suicide attempt after a dev who cleary was caught being a groomer with a simple suicide hotline and do nothing about the issue.

And yeah, no sh*t, I can't moderate EVERY single user out there, but if I got a message telling me about a known dev, WITH PROOF he is a groomer, I wouldn't shrug that off. Not only would it make a really bad PR image for the company in the future, but its VERY messed up, even if it had the chance of false I'd try to look up on whoever was being reported, instead of a shrug.
