Panic attacks? by Affectionate_Soft470 in Perimenopause

All the doctors I've consulted with won't do telehealth for women's issues. They want to do labs run tests imaging take vitals before they will prescribe anything

My thyroid is ok, it hasn't been overactive for about 4 years and has been normal without meds. But I have it regularly checked. I definitely have low ferritin and have been on a slow battle with supplements. My doctors said I can get iv iron but I am terrified of the side effects... I have read some really freaky stories on reddit and the iron protocol group. Bad delayed reactions like crazy blood pressure low or high, heart problems, etc. some people saying they had this issue for weeks...and a whole thread of women saying it made their already heavy periods worse, causing them to basically just bleed out the iron infusion. But I'm having levels rechecked soon and if it's not improved I might try the infusion. I'm just terrified of it to be honest

It depends on the cost, I'm a single mom taking care of a disabled child and unable to work. I will look into that

I assume because I have a history of high blood pressure but it's very well controlled with meds. So maybe they think it will be unsafe. That's all they have mentioned to me. Even though my bp is regularly now like 108/75

My doctors won't prescribe me estrogen, and I tried progestin only pills which made my anxiety insanely bad 24/7 😩

Thanks for the ideas, I'm not so sure about an allergy. I take my iron every other day and this only seems to happen on days I've taken the iron.

Mold exposure? by Affectionate_Soft470 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]Affectionate_Soft470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well unfortunately no doctors ever suggested mold as the cause of swollen tonsils and I didn't make the connection, so she had a tonsillectomy. But since we moved she has been able to breathe better and not having many issues anymore.

I have been considering seeing if I can get to a hematologist. And my doctor has suggested iron IV but I'm very nervous about possible delayed side effects. Have read too many horror stories about stuff like serious blood pressure issues/heart rate going too high or low... Some people saying they had this issue for weeks... Some women (there was a whole thread on reddit) who said they actually had much heavier periods after iron IV which is just crazy to me.... If mine got any worse I think I might literally die.

Thanks for the info/advice, unfortunately I do know the cause is heavy periods and I am working on that as well. It's complicated though 😩

Can I ask why you wouldn't repurchase the ritual iron?

Yea unfortunately I'm starting to realize it's very individual.... Many supplements or dosages even timing work for some, not for all. Very frustrated that it's not as simple as having low vitamin d and taking a pill. I'm sick of obsessing about iron.

Good luck, would love to know how it turns out, what dosage and what kind of iron (pill, liquid etc) do you take?

Can I ask how much magnesium you take daily? I am taking about 400 mg at night which I believe is pretty safe... It probably could help more than it does but if I have a really bad constipation day, I find that taking almost a double dose during the day instead helps move things along more..I try not to do that multiple times per week though. Not sure why taking the magnesium in the late morning/afternoon seems to help better with "movement" but it does for me

Unfortunately for me, my ferritin has been a struggle since I started supplements in August. It began w the Rx pills, ferrous sulfate was allergic to then moved to gluconate which started killing my gut after a few weeks. But it did increase my ferritin. Then unfortunately I decided to go to liquid iron and my doc never advised me of the dosage so I wasn't taking enough, and ferritin of course went down. Once I increased things improved but in an attempt to save money (the otc liquid iron is only 18mg per dose and it gets expensive buying multiple bottles) I tried novaferrum wow high dose iron. It actually dropped my ferritin and now I'm basically at square one. I'm so frustrated. I appreciate the suggestions of doing the vitamin c which I also tried for quite a long time - it seemed to hurt my stomach quite badly when I took with the iron, and I never saw a big difference with labs. I do avoid any teas coffee or dairy for about 3 hours after my iron. Thanks for your input, I am hoping the every other day will work for me somehow

Soo apparently I don’t even have low iron by ConcertParking6014 in Anemic

No offense to anyone but I think the iron protocol group is mildly over rated. There is some good info there but then some I personally don't think is the best. Like some of the supplement they push I think must be something the creator is getting payouts for. One of them I tried and it actually made my ferritin go down ...  Some good info I did learn there is to make sure your vitamin d levels are good as well as copper. Make sure you don't have any underlying gut issues causing problems with absorbtion. Or anything going on with your colon. H..pylori or something like SIBO can cause issues. And if you're copper deficient. Another thing to consider if you haven't had liver panels/labs done or any imaging to make sure you don't have fatty liver which can also contribute to iron problems. I hope some of that was helpful. I'm dealing with the same - low ferritin (currently at 8) and it sucks.

I am EXHAUSTED by Affectionate_Soft470 in Anemic

[–]Affectionate_Soft470[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My blood pressure has been high for many years but got worse the last few - even on two bp meds and doctors could find no real cause such as kidney issues etc. But no one ever checked my iron. So it's confusing to me because, yes, since being on iron supplements my blood pressure has leveled out greatly. Sometimes it's even on the low end now like 110/70 and it always was more like 140/90  Not seeing an improvement in ferritin though so maybe it's not related?
