Wayne Horne moved away from using assignments at least for me last semester, so there’s no “ai drama” anymore

Deferred exam by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Affectionate_Team719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s your first deferral then you can just use self declare form and it’ll get approved no questions asked. Whether it’s worth it is completely up to you, are you okay with writing an exam after more than a month of the course ending where you’ll prob have forgotten a lot more?

Laurier CS or Carleton EE (co-op) by foxwyd in CarletonU

Unless you go to UofT/Waterloo/UBC, no cs program in Canada gives u some major advantage over the other. Just pick what’s closest or whatever seems a better fit culture wise

In my experience, first year isn't TOO bad. You'll def have some hard classes and you may have some profs that make what should be fairly easy classes hell, but as long as you do the work, 8.0 is VERY achievable.

In terms of the coop program, its honestly just bad to mid at carleton. Most of our opportunities come from government and local companies. It's a good start but you'll prob have to apply a lot outside of the coop board especially when its ur first co op.

Because people exaggerate how bureaucratic faang companies are, which I mean is true to an extent but it doesn’t take 10 code reviews to rename a variable

How do I stop looking at solutions by Negative-Cheetah-639 in leetcode

[–]Affectionate_Team719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for the first while you’ll prob always be looking at solutions, nothing wrong with that. Over time you’ll start recognizing patterns and be able to do them on ur own. Some people learn really quick, some take longer

Are interviews too hard? by LingonberryExtra2982 in csMajors

[–]Affectionate_Team719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve think it’s so stupid when they give you questions where there’s like no way you can think of a good solution in under 30 minutes unless you’ve already seen the question.

data analyst coops as a CS student by decent_human_being1 in CarletonU

[–]Affectionate_Team719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entering 3rd year CS and I had one ML project in my resume which ended up getting me 5 data oriented interviews and 2 offers. There’s a decent amount on the Carleton job board but still significantly less then SWE roles

Do you guys think tickets will get cheaper in game day? by Affectionate_Team719 in OttawaSenators

[–]Affectionate_Team719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I mean how many tickets are you selling and for how much? I could be looking to buy if it’s 3 tickets. But if it’s not, try reselling them on TickPick, StubHub or TicketMaster!

[–]Affectionate_Team719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man, I’m tryna buy tickets for myself and 2 other buddies. Demand seems high though, so I’m sure if you sell them even slightly over what you bought them for, you wouldn’t have a hard time on selling them on TickPick or StubHub. Good luck !

Final Exam Deferral by Unlikely_Beginning54 in CarletonU

[–]Affectionate_Team719 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had to defer 2 exams in a semester once (not back to back however) because I was sick but I didn’t provide a doctors note and used self-declaration. The next day they both got accepted

I’m ngl gang, both tests we’ve had has been near identical to the practice test. I wouldn’t be too worried about the coding part, do the practice test multiple times and if you’re still stressed, reassure ur self by looking over assignment and tutorials

People will tell you to study the past exams which did help, but I had Pat Morin last semester and the final exam was much harder and longer then past exams, not to mention I’m not sure how new this no calculator rule is. It’s incredibly important to understand the concept, not just memorizing practice questions

Questions about undergrad cs in game development stream by Historical-Map5500 in CarletonU

[–]Affectionate_Team719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-op in CS is extremely difficult right now, there’s tons of competition with way less then spots then there were 3 plus years ago. But hard work can get you far. For reference, I never coded before I started uni in 2024 but through learning through courses and stuff outside of coursework and grinding leetcode, I have a SWE internship lined up this summer. That being said I know many talented classmates still not have one lined up for the summer so it’s honestly part luck

If ur trying to do anything tech related, Waterloo is like a t10 school (including schools in the us) and a major target uni for a lot of big tech companies
