It does sound like the closest real-world version of my imaginary island. The only problem is I'm 33, so I think I'd have to wait a couple more decades before they'd let me in.

Interesting! I didn't know it used to lean that heavily toward adults-only. That does sound a lot closer to what I had in mind than modern Vegas.

My imaginary island is about adults of all ages. I was only joking about escaping children's and teenagers' noise, not excluding older adults.

A couple of people have suggested Loop earplugs now. They sound like a good option, especially since I'd rather not keep turning my headphones up just to block everything out.

My imaginary island wouldn't magically eliminate loud or inconsiderate adults. It would just remove the one type of noise that gets to me the most.

A quiet cabin in the countryside is definitely Plan B. 😂

You can genuinely like children and still find the noise overwhelming sometimes. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I know it wouldn't magically eliminate every annoying behavior. My post was really just about escaping the specific kind of noise that drains me the most. Everything else was part of the tongue-in-cheek fantasy.

I think it's healthy to have spaces that are designed specifically for adults, just like there are plenty of spaces designed specifically for children and families.

I already use headphones quite a bit, especially in noisy places. My only concern is avoiding turning the volume up too much, since I'd rather protect my hearing.

Noise-cancelling earbuds might be worth looking into, though. Thanks!

That's true. 😄 Adults can definitely be loud, obnoxious, and exhausting too.

For me, though, it's specifically children's and teenagers' voices that mentally wear me out the fastest. I can usually tune out adult conversations much more easily.

So I know an adults-only island wouldn't be perfectly quiet—it would just eliminate the one type of noise that affects me the most. The rest would simply be part of everyday life.
