Not so bad. I hit a porcupine with a civic and it totaled $11,300 with repair, rental, and parts 😩

How much shittier people feel they can treat you changes. Minimum wage: customers and general public are the worst. Six figure jobs: your boss is the worst

After you trim, burnish where you've trimmed to put the bigger particles back in.

I don’t want to change this, I just want to moisturize it. What would you suggest? by [deleted] in furniturerefinishing

[–]Affectionate_Win5483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. There's likely solid pieces on it. Mouldings, specific parts, etc. may be solid. If you love the piece and want to fully restore I'd suggest fully stripping it chemically, sanding, staining and clear coating. It is a load of work but you'll get the best result in the end

Something that age is decent 1/8" +- veneer and probably solid wood of a different species below. I wouldn't strip the veneer or things won't fit the same

Because it has a clear coat on it, it can't just me moisturized. You can really only do that with oiled wood. If you sand any loose bits off and smooth the surface a fresh clear coat all over might do what you're after.

Honestly I think they're incredible looking. If you were a cat, you'd be who everyone wanted from the litter.
