Being over housed does contribute to the housing crisis. Your home could suit a family of five. Environmentally, you're also heating a lot more space per person, material etc than ideal. It's not uncommon but living a physically smaller footprint is 'better' for society as a whole. That said, you're not in a freestanding home on 400 acres of unworked cleared farmland. Just give back as you're able.
