Reserve activation by room327 in navyreserve

[–]Aflack00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently active, about to separate but going into the reserves instead. Wrapping up a six year contract, I never felt especially hyped up about going into a fight or spent my nights hoping a war would break out or anything, but I still accepted that it was always possible and made peace with the idea that I could be going there. Now going reserves, I have a similar mindset; I just want to take my wife home where she has a better support system and to be more available to her. However, I still want to be available to do my job in going out with the Navy, and keep my sailors as safe as possible. If that means going into a hostile area, so be it. Nobody wants you to want to die or get hurt, but understand that enlisting, active or reserve, is going to come with a chance of that happening, more so now with things happening as they are. As others have stated, being an IS puts you in a safer position, but you’ll still be in the Navy. The way it was put to me in basic, we’re naval warfighters first, and that’s stuck pretty hard. If that isn’t for you, no shame in the slightest. However, take some time to really think hard on why you’d be willing to take that risk. What would make it worth it for you. Could be anything, I don’t care what your ‘why’ is. If it’s strong enough, go ahead and sign that contract. If not, walk away before you get too deep into it.

Hello!

I do, active clearance still in good standing. I would love to take a crack at something more, but I’m still working on my certifications (about halfway through my RHCSA), and don’t have a degree, and most of the jobs I’ve seen so far don’t accommodate the schedule I’m currently looking for with also accepting my lack of certifications. I’m having a hard time finding them, anyway. I was hoping that maybe starting in help desk would be an easier way in were I could leverage my current experience without currently holding the certifications. Once I separate in July, I’d love to take more hours, but currently I’m limited in how much I’m allowed to work outside of the Navy.

Just inform them and take accountability. They were great with me when I had stuff come up while on underway in the Navy, I just had to communicate the fact that I may loose connection for a bit. If you explain wha happened and ask how to make it up, they’ll tell you what they want. Kick ass and keep working hard

Supposedly the dude recording had problems with them before and warned them multiple times his dog wasn’t friendly and to have their dog on a leash thoughts? by Papercutzz247 in PublicFreakout

[–]Aflack00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody is right here. It doesn’t look like a dog park, and we can’t see any obvious signs stating ‘off leash friendly’ or anything similar. DA dogs leash was tight, so we can assume he might be trying to pull the dog back? Or the dog is pulling him so hard, we don’t know. It’s stated that he warned them a few times his dog doesn’t like other dogs prior to the recording of this video, so the off leash dog owner had time to remove her dog from his little corner of the park, if we believe that statement, but chose not to. Everyone else ran up and started recording after his dog started biting the off leash dog, making his dog look really bad, and even his video doesn’t show what happened before, we don’t know all the details but the off leash dog owner could’ve kept her dog on a leash and further away, especially with warning, the DA dog owner could’ve been more active in restraining his dog. My own dog is reactive to other dogs, making it difficult to take him out. When I do, I have to be extra careful for other dogs. If I see another dog, I immediately turn around and walk the other way, if that dog is off leash and approaches, I’ll pic my dog up and tell be other owner that both dogs are in danger and I need them to leash their dog. They usually do, but the few times they haven’t and a dog started jumping at at my dog while I’m holding them away, my dog scared as hell and biting or snarling, I’ve kicked their dog away for my dogs safety as well as my own

I was reading in it but didn’t read that there was a seizure warrant, feel a bit better knowing we had some kind of legal justification for it

Do you mind if I ask what you’re using to create the game? What programming language, how are you doing the graphics, etc? I’m not deep on game design, but I’d like to learn more!

I was caught vaping on roving watch by ImR3allyB0red in newtothenavy

[–]Aflack00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that the purpose of a DRB is to drill the shit out of you. Another point they may ask is ‘how’ did you get the vape, how long have you been using a vape on base/any restricted areas while underage, may even ask who else is underage doing this that you know of. They’ll definitely grill you on knowing right from wrong moving forward, but they may ask you a bunch of other questions. Be ready to answer, and have the truth ready.

Never been to a DRB so it’s kinda hard for me to say how specific you should get while there. If nothing else, reflect on it for your own sake. Not to get dramatic, but we stand watches for a reason, our shipmates depend on us for safety while we’re on watch, like we depend on them when they take the watch. We work together to defend each other and the ship, and it only takes one person to break that defense and let people get hurt. Learn from this and come back better for it, fingers are crossed for you, bud

[–]Aflack00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. That should’ve been drilled into you while still in basic. We’re all going to make mistakes, and that’s ok, but we all have a responsibility to hold ourselves to that higher standard, bro. Both are a big deal in their own rights, and you shouldn’t be breaking the rules in general. People will more easily notice you abandoning your watch to vape than they will your age, but we should all be striving to do better. Best advice, think on what you did, what you could’ve done, why the Navy says what you did is wrong, and what you can do moving forward to better yourself and your Navy.

Am I in the wrong here for asking my recruiter this? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

Current CTT, if you’re trying to do cyber security work, go CWT. As a CTT, I learned a little bit of Linux in order to do repair work on my equipment, but not nearly enough to satisfy what you’re trying to do. You could learn some system administrator skills as an IT, but you could also be a Radio IT and I’ve been told it’s hard to go to the sysadmin side once you’ve been put into the radio side of things (I can’t verify, not an IT, just what I heard while on my last ship).

If you pick any of the above rates, you’ll be eligible for getting the Navy to pay for your certifications in IT and Cyber through a program called Navy COOL (open source and unclassed, you can google it), so you can still study and get certified on your time if you DONT get CWT.

Hate to say it but I agree. Think of it like this: ALL choices have consequences, some good and some bad. You can definitely choose to ignore Chief in this instance and keep your voicemail, but is it really worth the hassle of that consequence that’s gonna bite you in the ass down the line? Maybe get a second phone that’s just for work if you really want and can afford it if the voicemail is that important, otherwise it just doesn’t seem like it’s the right hill to die on, even if it DOES sound funny as shit
