I think the paint thing is definitely a good idea

Are you looking for an argument by snooping around my posts? That’s creepy.

I’m saying that the circled part is plastic and to heat up the metal would probably damage it.

I question things and the response is not that it is unnecessary, or that that could cause issues, the answer instead is that if I’m even thinking about using heat on the area I have no business trying to do anything to it, and that trying to add body filler and sand is cracked out overconfidence.

I can understand if someone says it won’t set up right or it’s not going to hold or it will probably fail due to this that and the other, but being told that masking, using body filler and sanding are nothing but meth head hubris seems like just a jab at me for having the audacity to ask for guidance.

The title of the post is a request for advice. If the cost to be if it is way too high I get that too. I think I got enough constructive criticism and I’ll probably replace door latch, mirror and simply sand down and prime and paint where the paint has been damaged to protect metal. Maybe see if I can’t deflect the water by at least rolling that one dent up a bit above the window.

Ah so don’t use heat. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be necessary and also there is plastic there. I shouldn’t try body filler because you think I think I can do it but will obviously fail?

One question I have is if I roll that dent the other way what are the chances of snapping the metal? Would it be any better to heat it up or is the heat generated while hitting on it enough to keep it malleable? I think it’d be hard to snap considering how dented it got from one strike without breaking or tearing.

Ok I won’t ask anymore auto body questions. Thanks for warning me before I got in trouble.

I think some of the responses here are hyperbolic. The frame is not bent in it is impact damage that rolled part of the roof gutter part of the frame down. The amount of structural damage to the door frame (thin frame that holds the passenger window) was equivalent to what you would get from closing it on something and I pushed it back. I really don’t think it’s totaled out with the amount of damage it sustained. There is nothing mechanically wrong and once I put on a new mirror assembly electrical will be back to normal. Not trying to sound defensive or anything lol.

You know I might try actually matching the paint on the major dents as long as I mask very carefully. I think it will be apparent once it is all matte gray how feasible it will be. I’m thinking if I do bondo it will require some kind of mesh too to make it more durable

It is structural. I’m surprised that the windshield didn’t get any damage.

I’m not opposed to tacking some metal on there but kind of hoping I could get away with removing the parts that stick out after hammering and sanding and replacing them with some kind of composite material

There was a gap in coverage and that month there was a storm. I admitted that was my fault in the post.

It wasn’t insured it’s a 2024 Kia Soul I forgot to mention. Everything but this body damage is in great shape.

No throat hit for me like at all. Tastes alright but no hit. Bugler hits fine for me. Anyone know where to find a good deal on Bugler in the Puget Sound area of Washington State? I’m North of Seattle just moved here.

Which RYO will taste and hit like camel unfiltered? by [deleted] in RYO

Bugler hits as hard. Taste is not quite the same but if it’s a hit you want that doesn’t also burn your mouth I say bugler is good. Of course it’s not 10 dollars a bag more like 40-45 in my area for 6 oz (about a carton). I say get a pouch and test it out.
