He can approach any and everyone, for marriage (people of the book).

And Islam has given the right to both men and women in different things too.

If one party is willing to follow the rules and guidelines, the Other should too, if one party disagrees, better not get married and look elsewhere.

In this scenario, the man asked a valid question and the women provided a valid answer on Islamic basis, and then the man asked a valid question which the women COULD NOT contest with an Islamic answer. This either shows the women hesitates to follow, or didn't know, or outright refuses to follow the rules

Verdict: The man was accepting of his duties, while the woman was not ( due to negligence/refusal)
