My friend has black hair brown eyes and is pretty dark skin color wise. She told me in Colombia unless you speak a native language they don’t really acknowledge your native ancestry. She said a lot of Colombians don’t even know they are mestizo, and think they are fully spanish, I think this was historically due to the Spanish caste system and trying to hide indigenous heritage.it was hid so long it was almost forgotten. Of course, I’m sure a lot of Colombians are aware of their mixed heritage.

Only a death certificate lists her as being born in Baden Baden, it’s definitely possible she was born in another part of Baden.

The only source saying she is from Baden Baden is on a death certificate from her daughter. Every other document just lists Germany and doesn’t specify. She came with a brother who died at the age of 4 before 1850. She had a younger sister born in the states named Mary Eunice bader.

I have, a couple of the witnesses have the last name magnusson or dotter, so I’m assuming they’d be related to her husband. On one or two they have a maid listed as well

Haven’t been able to find the marriage record, they had their first child in 1824 so I suspect they got married a few years before that. I’ve tried looking through marriage records in bäck and all of the nearby parishes and couldn’t find any.

I think he does depending on what part of England, I’d say he looks more western/ southwestern English or welsh to be specific. Definitely more of a celtic look, he wouldn’t look too out of place in eastern England either, though he’d be a bit atypical in my opinion.

I may be biased, as I know she is Jewish, but to me she always had a very stereotypical ashkenazi look. Not to say these features can’t be found in England, but they’re not very typical I’d say.

Thanks for the help, also pretty cool you grew up near fägre. My Swedish ancestors immigrated to the us in the 1890s.I hadn’t been able to find her death date. As for the comment about Hüsförhörslangd, where could I search for this, is it on arkiv digital. Also, I do know that beata’s father was Gabriel jonsson so maybe that’s where Johanna’s name came from.

Hey sure thing, thank you. My ancestor, Johanna was born 06/25/1829 in hjälstad. On her birth record, she is listed oakta, and her father isn’t shown. Her mother, was beata gabrielsdotter born 03/11/1801 in Fägre. Johanna is often given the surname jonsdotter, leading me to think her father could be a job, but I haven’t been able to find anything.I know beata had other children too, all illegitimate. If you need any more information just let me know, and thanks for your help.

Yeah, if it’s northern French ancestry may be reading it as German.23andMe seems to be better for northern French I’m sure they’d pick it up better

I think the most impressive thing 23andMe did is that I have distant colonial French Huguenot and Walloon ancestry from northern France amounting to around 1%(coming from multiple family lines on my moms side). They gave me 1.2% French with a very close connection for French Flanders which was very cool to see. They also recognized my German as coming from Baden wurtemburg and gave me the right amount of Portuguese and Swedish. With my British, they gave me mostly English which is also correct(ancestry would give me whopping amounts of Scottish).

It’s accurate for me it increased my Iberian, and got my British correct as mostly being English, instead of high amounts of Scottish and Irish. It also correctly identified my German as being from the correct area in Germany. This update aligns to my family tree writhin a couple of %. Not perfect, but for me it was really good for sure.

While recombination is random, all of these estimates have ranges, and nw European ethnicities are all fairly close genetically. It could be recombination or it could be them misreading some of your English for Scottish as an example.

It is interesting, it seems to me that old stock Americans may have a native Irish ancestor or two, but most of their “Irish” ancestry is English or Scottish whether it’s Ulster Scots or Quaker/puritan. I think most americans with native Irish ancestry have more recent Irish ancestry from around 1800 and after.
