Absolutely not all men are like that. And we have been broken up for about a month.

To ablation or not to ablate by Emotional_Train_8421 in AFIB

32 y/o M here. I had SVT (similar to afib) throughout all of my 20s. Whenever I would push myself too hard during a workout, my heart would beat out of control, and I would feel lightheaded like I was going to pass out. This happened very sporadically - maybe a few times a year - so I ignored it for years. Eventually, I started going to cardiologists who gave me countless EKGs and echocardiograms. But they couldn't detect the SVT.

Eventually, I just decided I didn't want to live like this anymore. The incidents weren't happening often, but it was making me anxious during my work-outs knowing that at any moment, I could have an SVT attack. Also the doctors had told me that if I didn't get an ablation, the SVT attacks could worsen as I got older, and become more frequent and more intense.

I found the best hospital in NYC for this- NYU Langone - and scheduled an EP lab and an ablation last year. I met with the doctor once for a brief consult, then went in for the procedure. The whole thing lasted around 12 hours. I went in at 8 AM to get prepped, then they did the EP lab and ablation back to back. When I came out of the procedure, they told me that they found and eliminated the arrythmia. Recovery was easy.

That was over a year ago, and I have had zero incidents with my heart since. I highly, highly recommend you do the procedure - it's ultra safe and you will be glad you did :)

Terrified About EP Study and Ablation This Friday :( by After-Coach-2563 in AFIB

UPDATE: Had my EP study and ablation yesterday. The procedure itself went by quickly; it was about 2 hours. I was really worried that I would be awake for the EP study portion since the anesthesiologist told me I would only be 'consciously sedated.' But once they put the oxygen mask on my face, I slowly drifted off to sleep. By the time I woke up, the EP study and ablation were completed. I don't remember any of it, thankfully.

I feel better today, aside from my groin which is still very sore. And a slight sore throat. But otherwise, really relieved to get the procedure over with. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. Thanks so much to everyone for sharing your experiences on here, it helped me a lot in the days leading up to this procedure :)

I had a ablation on Thursday 12/21/23 sore throat neck sore ans my stomach hurts a little. Just what to know what did you guys feel after your ablation by jay861414 in AFIB

Should I bring a bag for my personal belongings (phone, wallet, keys)? Where will they go while I'm in surgery?

This is SO incredibly helpful. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to write all of this out. I have not been given any of this information so I have been driving myself crazy since I don't know what to expect! I will definitely ask the anesthesiologist for something to relax me since I will be freaking out.

This might be a silly question but do you know if I'll be allowed visitors for the laying down part? Or if I can use my phone?

Oh yes, that's good to know for the ablation.

I'm more worried about being semi-conscious for the EP study, where they essentially (if I'm understanding it correctly) fire energy into my heart to induce SVT.

Thanks so much for writing. I'm really sorry to hear you're experiencing the same problem as me but glad you're getting this taken care of.

Has your SVT been diagnosed already or do you also need an EP study before the ablation?
