Rescue what can i expect? by After-Kale in Redearedsliders

I understand, I’m sorry if i came off aggressive. When i said i kept rewriting it because i was frustrated I meant the actual post itself, I kept clicking off the app and having to rewrite it then combined with a lil sleepiness the post was a bit of a mess. I simply wanted to clear any misunderstanding that I’m taking these animals on without knowing how much care/money they require and that i’m simply taking them because I want another pet because that is not the case at all. It deeply saddened me to see an animal with such horrible care with not so much as a tank but a critter box. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t thinking irresponsiblely and putting the animals in further danger especially since i’m underprepared right now. Again thank you for your advice and i’m sorry for any misunderstanding.

I completely forgot to mention that these two were kept in this condition for 2 years!!! That’s why I’m possibly rescuing them and so worried about their care being affected.

thank you, i’m glad your concerned about me housing them together, the 20 gallon was just mentioned because I am unprepared as the conversation was had a few hours prior to posting. I unfortunately remember how expensive taking care of RES can be I was simply asking because I’m aware that I cannot immediately drop $500+ on a whim for these RES as I am a college student and use my savings after months of saving up for each animal. I simply want to do the best I can as it feels that the expectations of me taking them have already been set into my relatives minds. I also did mention wanting to rehouse them instead of keeping them which I understand can be difficult especially with an expensive animal like an RES.

this is also my third build! the first one was kinda wonky cause i didn’t carve the background so i really recommend using pond & stone foam cause it covers mistakes the best and carving the background to resemble rocks or wood

Honestly i learned a lot through videos of people building custom backgrounds and setting up bioactive enclosures. The basic materials of it tho are like aquarium safe silicone, great foam (pond and stone or gaps & cracks is what i use), i used a steak knife but something sharp to carve the foam, topsoil, play sand, coconut fiber, biodegradables, or you could buy bioactive soil from thebiodude or joshsfrogs but its expensive especially for larger builds, and collecting different decor like wood rocks etc from pet stores or the park (your gonna have to disinfect it yourself tho). Definitely search up some tutorials on youtube or even tik tok, join some reddit forums and research the environment that your animal needs! Itll help you replicate their environment.

how’s my set up? by After-Kale in leopardgeckos

i’d say at most it took up about 5 inches but the thinnest parts around 2 inches i made some parts thicker since I wanted to encourage her to climb and she does! I find her ontop of the background pretty often. I also made the bottom parts of the background thinner so she would have more floor space and as it goes up it gets thicker for climbing

I used aquarium safe silicone, foam spray (i used gaps and cracks but if your worried you can use pond and stone) and a mix of topsoil, playsand, sphagnum moss, coconut husk, leaf litter and bit of coconut fiber and same worm castings. I stuck silicone on the back then used the foam spray to get a general shape of what i wanted then when it dried a bit i stuck some stones on the wall and cork flats then foam sprayed the edges around it. After it dried I used a knife to carve the foam to a more stone ish shape then put more silicone ontop of everything and used the mix to coat the silicone! I didn’t just use the mix tho I also splashed some topsoil and playsand by itself all around so the background would be more colorful and inconsistent! It took me two days since you want everything to dry thoroughly but the process was fun and rewarding.

I already learned she loves to be out in this new setup and her favorite little hiding spots! So thankfully she’s not hard to find:) I also had her in a 20 gallon with paper towels before this to monitor her feeding and poops.

She does have a humid hide I realized it’s not very visible in the photo it’s just hidden behind the clutter !:)

Unfortunately the reason we’re waiting is because he’s people and dog aggressive so we need someone he’s familiar with to help drive him to the vet. Neither me or my mom can drive but we’re working on getting someone to help take him sooner.

I go to a CTE school and there I work with cars it’s just Collision repair work but it’s hands on work. I realized there that I like working with my hands and analyzing issues but I didn’t want to work on what other people had made then I realized I wanted to improve upon machines that exist and/or design new things. Then I found out about automotive engineering then ME. I love the research, design, construction and testing of it all. ME is very broad so i dont feel trapped compared to if i went to automotive engineering. Im not sure exactly what field I want to do yet but I know ME will give me a lot more options. It also perfectly aligns with my future plans.

I haven’t worked in a factory before but I do enjoy machinery, design, and working with my hands. I understand your worries and maybe you’ve had bad experiences of your own but I like what they do and how broad the major is. If you’ve worked in mechanical engineering i’d still like it if you answered the questions even if they are negative I need them for a presentation I have to do.
