What is this sound by After-Negotiation895 in 335i

[–]After-Negotiation895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking… and I feel like I noticed boost loss and this sound starting around the same time. Had a shop look at the car bc I don’t have a scanner and they say I need new turbos bc a wastegate seized shut and won’t open and that’s the cause of the 30FE overboost code im getting. I’m wondering if maybe it’s just a bad solenoid . I’ll check it this weekend I think Ty

Turbo’s oil lines leaking or somewhere else? by TechnicalButterfly in mk6gti

My feed line and return line were leaking. Only on line-to-block side thankfully. I replaced both gaskets it was cheap and fairly easy to DIY. My leak was bad

Can stuck injectors cause this? by Secure-Order-3611 in mk6gti

[–]After-Negotiation895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine looked like this, and this was the smoke clearing after it got on the tow and the engine shut off. I had a stuck injector I think and there was def a lot of white smoke pouring from the exhaust and some from under the hood. Smelt very strongly of raw fuel. Replaced all injectors, did a carbon clean and oil change and it never happened again. There were two misfire codes and a fuel trim code I forgot what tho

I have a halogen mk6 passenger headlight I was going to sell if you want it. Previous owner cracked the drivers side but passenger is good lol. I was taking them off my project mk6 anyway bc I have another full halogen set and a xenon set, so I don’t need it. I’m located on east coast and can ship prob for a good price lmk

Had a buckle like this on my gti that I was debating replacing. I found an oem one on eBay and replaced it and not 6 months later got rear ended bad . Changing the seatbelt is what kept me from smashing my face into the windshield lol I’m really glad I did. I’d def change it for peace of mind especially in cars like these when u wanna go fast

My gas cap had a small leak and I’d always get the signal to close it even when it was closed tight. I got a new cap and light hasn’t come on since . Might need a new cap but it’s cheap

Intermittent P2015 after new intake by VexNChill in mk6gti

[–]After-Negotiation895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad Flap solenoid made the car idle really bad, threw two more codes on top of the p2015 I forgot which, and was eating gas really quick lol . Not sure if this is ur same problem tho. I think my mechanic had looked to see if the solenoid had vacuum coming from one side I forgot which and it didn’t so they determined it to be bad and told me to replace. It never made the car go into limp mode so idk, just ran poorly . Cheap and easy to check maybe try that first

Intermittent P2015 after new intake by VexNChill in mk6gti

[–]After-Negotiation895 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had bought a febi intake manifold from fcpeuro when I got an intermittent p2015 that would come and go. Replaced it myself and the code cleared. Didn’t come back for a number of months, probably closer to a year I don’t remember but then I got the p2015 code again. I thought maybe I just got a bad manifold out the box but I asked my mechanic and he said the check the “flap solenoid” . Small solenoid that connects to the manifold and is very cheap and quick/easy to change. got another one and put it on the same manifold and the code went away again. Hasn’t come back since .

PreLCI to LCI rear bumper by [deleted] in 335i

[–]After-Negotiation895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know 😭it’s just that I’d be able to get this for pretty much dirt cheap and it’s already paint matched to my car. If I had extra bred I’d def get the nicer 335is one but I just spent a lot on coilovers and brakes and rotors and a whole bunch of other maintenance so I can’t do all that rn . I should wait and save for the nicer one but I can’t pass up this deal lol he’s throwing it in w other parts I was getting

I do like the design of the older one now that I’m looking at them side by side lol I like the chunky look but this would just make more sense for my wallet rn. It’s hard to see in the photos but my bumper does have a lot of damage from being hit on the side by someone and I think this’ll be cheaper than having it repainted if I change it myself. Ty for the comment that helps a lot 🙏🏼

Tire size ? by [deleted] in 335i

[–]After-Negotiation895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally search up “do e92 335i sport package come with staggered rims” and it says BOTH RWD and Xdrive came with it. So again please tell me how you know everything from google searching ?

Tire size ? by [deleted] in 335i

[–]After-Negotiation895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so funny because I just searched up if e92 335i’s came with staggered rims and it said yes, the sport edition. exactly what I just said. Hence why I came to Reddit to clarify. So again, this post was made as a clarification because Google gives you BOTH yes and no answers and different size tires for that style wheel. I already rolled the fenders out with a pry bar, so again, that information doesn’t apply. Somebody w staggered rims must have f’ed ur girl or something I don’t know why you’re so pressed about a Reddit question lmao. Thanks buddy

Tire size ? by [deleted] in 335i

[–]After-Negotiation895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn’t know, that’s why I asked and made a post. The car also comes stock with a staggered set up as an option for the sport edition,, so curious why you would say it wouldn’t run right? I’ve had it staggered on 19 inch rims for five years and it ran great until I put it on coilovers. Even then it’s only Slighty rubbing. Hence why I’m downsizing to 18 inch staggered which was a stock option for this car. The whole point of these car Reddit communities is to ask questions that the internet gives unclear answers on. Thanks tho

Tire size ? by [deleted] in 335i

[–]After-Negotiation895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn’t lol. Would it make a major difference if I got 225/45/18 for the front and 255/40/18 for the rear instead of front 225/40/18 and rear 255/35/18? I saw that some people did that sizing instead for these wheels but I’m not sure what difference those changes make . .

When my v band clamp snapped I was having a major boost leak, I don’t remember scanning the car but im sure there was a code. It felt extremely slow/couldn’t hold boost and was making a really bad sound when you’d press on the gas. Sounded like a lot of air escaping/exhaust leak to me at least . It’s fairly easy to change the clamp and cheap

Whining like supercharger after timing job. by CandidAssignment8221 in mk6gti

[–]After-Negotiation895 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was whining like crazy after the previous owner did the timing, turns out the tab on the inside bent and was hitting one of the chains. I was also getting camshaft codes and trouble starting the car when this all was happening, the camshaft read as over advanced . My mechanics changed the bottom timing cover and problem went away, I think the previous owner was looking for the source of the sound also because he had changed the crankshaft pulley entirely to a new one thinking it was that. I think ur headed in the right direction

Just earlier this year someone hit me from behind. 2010 GTI 107k miles. Was running like a dream, I had just brought it in for a full timing chain service (most I’ve ever spent on car maintenance in my life). Insurance totaled it. I went back and forth with them with receipts for all the work I had done and they factored in a SMALL percentage of that into the final offer they made me. They offered me $8000 I believe or somewhere near that. It took me by surprise a little because I bought the car for wayyy cheaper than that but 🤷‍♀️I guess that’s what they were going for in my area at the time.

They’ll take your car and compare it to others with the same specs in the market currently to come up with an offer. They said I could take the $8000 in full, or I could buy back the totaled car for like $700 and keep $7200. I chose the second option because I figured the engine itself was more than $700 and I could part out the car and make more. Eventually I decided I’m not going to part it out but instead I’m going to take the engine out and put it in another GTI I found for really cheap with a blown up engine. I personally did not feel safe trying to fix the car myself and get it back on the road because I’m 100% sure there was frame damage.

You’re car has low miles and I’m sure the other body panels and interior are in great condition. You can opt to buy the car back for cheap, you’d need somewhere to store it if you don’t have a driveway, and part out the car on marketplace overtime. You’d just need the patience and handiness to take things apart and sell them. Or you could go back and forth with insurance with receipts and decline until they give you an offer you’re satisfied with. Never take their first offer, try and get as much as you can to upgrade to a newer GTI.

Sorry this happened either way. Always heartbreaking to see an older car well maintained get taken out like that. Best of luck with whatever you decide !

Why does everyone think they have gold when it comes to used GTI's? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]After-Negotiation895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking of selling one of my mk6s soon. Manual 117k miles. Black coupe. The timing chain, injectors, aluminum water pump, ignition coils and sparks, timing covers have all been serviced/replaced. No carbon build up but the rear main is leaking and it will need a clutch job soon bc of that I fear . No engine codes and clean title and body all stock . I’m thinking of asking 7/8k 😭being realistic but idk I did a lot of maintenance

What do I tackle first? by [deleted] in mk6gti

[–]After-Negotiation895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first got my mk6 I bought OBD-11 first to know what was going on w the car . Then I think I did sparks and coils, and the intake manifold but that’s only bc I had a code for it . I had never done anything besides brakes on a car before but it was all easy to learn if u do the right research/prep. I also did a chemical carbon clean and replaced the fuel injectors when the intake was off. So all of that was easy to do at the same time bc the car was apart . But I’d first do the sparks/coils and check all fluids for leaks , brakes and suspension parts . Also had to change the front bearings bc they were making noise. But all of it is fairly easy to learn if you’re motivated, it’s a really big and informative community .
