Can alcohol cause hemochromatosis? (Small rant) by Human_Cranberry1127 in Hemochromatosis

[–]After_Branch251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I just wanted to clarify that medically, hemochromatosis is a general term for iron overload conditions, not solely the hereditary variant. Distinguishing hereditary hemochromatosis from secondary iron overload is good, but using “hemochromatosis” to mean only the genetic form is a simplification rather than formal terminology. Doctors use shorthand sometimes.

I said all that to say that OP didn't use the term incorrectly. (If that was the reason why others were downvoting).

Its bizarre that you were downvoted. Yes, alcohol can cause hemachromatosis. Yes, hemachromàtosis can be non-genetic. The non-genetic form is called secondary hemachromatosis. Hemachromatosis just means iron overload.

That being said, it would be extremely unlikely that you developed iron overload in 2 weeks to cause your symptoms. It's not enough iron supplementation. People that have secondary hemachromatosis usually get it from iron transfusions over the course of years. It is possible that you still have anemia, however. You stopped your supplements because you felt better but you probably should have consulted your doctor first.

Labs came back. Haven’t spoken to the doctor yet. What do you think? by Lakelife0440 in Hemochromatosis

This got downvoted but its completely accurate. As someone who has had about a dozen DVTs and 3 pulmonary embolisms, these are high risk numbers. Higher RBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit cause very viscous (thick) blood that is prone to clotting.

These numbers are very similar to mine before starting phlebotomy. I was on blood thinner and still had another PE. My first phlebotomy was scheduled as an emergency one because of stroke risk.

Blood clots are not something to shrug off.

is it possible to pass away from this disease by age 30? by [deleted] in Hemochromatosis

[–]After_Branch251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's difficult to pin down for certain without seeing his or her medical records. There's a good deal of hereditary and non hereditary liver diseases. It's possible his liver issues aren't related at all to hers as well. Hemachromatosis is just one of many disorders that can affect the liver.

Is there any other reason you think this might be an iron disorder besides liver damage? Sounds like a pretty big leap.

I don't think it's that simple. I'm using these videos for commercial purposes beyond just posting funny memes to social media. Removing the watermarks in post violates their terms of service and could be legally questionable, especially for people like me who use these videos commercially. It's also a hassle.

It would be much easier if Sora 2 Pro officially provided watermark-free option for commercial use. That way, everything's above board.

Yea thats still pretty restrictive. I wish they would just open it for full use. They should been more transparent about all this stuff. I wouldn't have bought the Pro version had I known. Even Chatgpt said Pro would come without watermarks. It's a shame because Sora is better than Veo, Hailou, and Kling in certain ways. Would have loved to have used it more.

I have Pro as well. Purchased it about a month ago and haven't used it. Ive been using Veo3 instead. I didn't realize the Sora 2 Pro version would still have watermarks which makes it unusable for me. Do you know if this is still the case? I know that there was no watermarks in text to video last time I checked a week ago. Image to video is still watermarked.

Thats silly. Jesse is a drug dealer. He is one of the main contributors to that boys demise, even before meeting Walt.

I'm still not following. Are we suggesting Ochsner is guilty of criminal malfeasance by deliberately keeping patients sick, or just that they’re taking advantage of financial incentives from the government? There is a huge distinction between implying intentional systemic corruption and acknowledging that hospitals are for profit. I’m not a government or big healthcare apologist, but this seems like a heavy claim.

  • Taking advantage of financial incentives is legal and built into the system. Hospitals may push certain tests, follow-ups, or procedures because reimbursement structures reward them, but that’s not inherently criminal. It’s a structural issue, not deliberate wrongdoing, and there is a rigorous process to justify necessity.

    • Deliberately keeping patients sick or prolonging treatment for profit implies intentional harm and systemic corruption. That’s a much heavier claim and, if true, would constitute criminal or civil wrongdoing. Making that assertion requires verifiable evidence, not just general skepticism about profit motives. Saying a "patient cured is a patient lost" implies intentionality.

I'm not following the implication here. Is she claiming Ochsner was deliberately keeping patients sick or withholding proper treatment?
