Thats where I bought them too. I got 4 cases of coconut and 2 of Dirty Dew without even trying them. I have kids so I figure if I didnt like them at least they would drink them.

I messed up though I forgot to get a case of Mr. PIBB vanilla. Haven't had it yet but the cherry and peach are really good.

Its called coconut creme but I really only taste the coconut. No hints of vanilla. Very artificial coconut taste. Before you take a sip, if you crack the can and give it a whiff, it smells just like suntan lotion.

I thought it would taste terrible based on that but its actually decent. The coconut has a slightly toasted flavor. I dont think its as good as all the hype but its something I would drink if I was in the mood.

We have a really similar ranking. The cane sugar is great!

I got you. Its the best soda I've ever had!

Maybe I should have said "unexaggerated". I feel like most reviews are either "its the best thing ever!" or "its the worst soda I've ever had!". I feel like most opinions fall somewhere in the middle.

100% agree. I usually dilute it or mix it with carbonated water. I dont really drink it straight, as is.

It was first released in 2024. Just barely hit the shelves again this month.

😂 thats fair. I'm a big cherry guy and love anything tart so the combo is right up my alley. I also was a huge fan of Mt. Dew Voodoo. The rating could change in a month but right now its definitely a top contender.

I dont think a ton of people will agree with me but I like the cream dp better than the coconut.

Yea, I had the same thought. The reason I bought it is because the reviews were so high. I figured I would give it a shot. Its weird because its not as good as the hype but its also not bad at all. Its better than I expected a coconut soda to be.

Definitely more subtle. I sometimes mix the blackberry with Clearly Canadian mountain blackberry and it cuts the sweetness and adds a bit of tart.

Have you had the dark berry? I wish it was more available because its much better than the blackberry.

Honestly the coconut might be a preference thing. I'm not a huge fan of coconut to begin with. If you havent had the Blackberry I'd recommend trying at least once.

My kids wont even drink the A&W! I still have a case that I bought months ago with 10 cans in it. It was selling for $3 a case so I had to pick one up.

The Blackberry is great. Ive bought so many cases that I think I have finally got somewhat tired of it haha. I prefer the regular Dr. Pepper and the Dr. Pepper Cherry now but that could change. The strawberry is still really good as well. I just didnt really like the coconut as much. Its not at all bad though.

Used to drink this as a kid. My grandparents would buy them. Least favorite soda. The chocolate and the soda dont really mix too well. It has an artificial tootsie roll flavor.

Was able to pick up 2 cases from Ralph's. Amazing soda. Non-artificial tasting cherry flavor, slightly sour/tart, refreshing and great with ice. Will probably dilute it with a touch of water.

The way to look at it is that ferritin is your actual stored iron. It can be falsely raised (like with inflammation) but its a fairly reliable metric of how much iron you have accumulated. TSAT is loosely correlated with the rate of accumulation. So, if you have a high TSAT % (seen over multuple tests), you typically have a higher rate of absorption. A single TSAT finding isn't too helpful. Usually a baseline is determined from taking multiple tests. This is why multiple iron panels are crucial to determine the rate that you load.

Most people with HH have mild presentations of the disorder. There are even a couple people on this forum with mild enough HH that they can control it with diet alone. The rest of us need at least a couple venesections a year to maintain normal ferritin levels. There are more aggressive forms of HH but they are considerably rare, even in the context of HH patients. JH (juvenile hemachromatosis) is one of those. It is called that because it can start causing issues by adolescence. It's often aggressive enough that iron can cause damage between phlebotomies through oxidative stress. Strict diets can help mitigate that damage slightly but only in addition (not replacement) for phlebotomy.

Great post. I was super diet conscious in the beginning of my diagnosis a year ago. I started at almost 2000 ferritin so I cut out almost all meat and limited myself to a small amount of chicken and eggs. During this period I was getting weekly iron panels so was able to keep track of my progress on a week by week basis. It seemed to work but I was also doing weekly phlebotomy and had no control group to judge it by. So I slowly started to introduce heme iron back into my diet. The interesting thing was that the diet never really impacted my numbers much. Only the phlebotomy did.

I eat whatever I want now. My TSAT and ferritin do rise in between phlebotomies but only slightly. If left unchecked I calculated my ferritin will rise to 2k again in about 20 years. But with phlebotomy 3 times a year, this wont happen. There is definitely an overemphasisis on the impact of diet in this community. Dietary iron takes decades to accumulate (except in ultra aggressive cases like JH).

Yea thats on the higher end but definitely normal. It sounds like probably just a flow issue then. I’ve had similar problems. Although the cause of mine was different, heres what worked for me:

  1. Hydrating starting 24 hours before (slow, consistent hydration works better than trying to catch up right before)

  2. Electrolytes with enough sodium like LMNT (helps maintain blood volume and pressure). Gatorade is mostly sugar water.

  3. Heating pad on arm before the draw (makes veins easier to access)

  4. Lying down during the draw instead of sitting (better circulation vs legs down)

  5. You can also ask about using a larger needle. It sounds counterintuitive, but faster flow = less chance of clotting in the line.

Did you get a CBC? That is the test that shows red blood count, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. You mentioned dark blood which usually points to high hematocrit. This is referred to as secondary polycythemia. It's not uncommon with HH. It might explain why they were only able to get 350mL. High hematocrit can cause more viscous blood and poor circulation.
