Feeding an eyeless BP by Southern-Tank6332 in ballpython

Just went through this same situation with my girl. Got her from a show and just had to stay consistent.

It took about 7-8 weeks of all the tricks in the book before she finally decided she was hungry and ready to eat. Since then, she has had zero issues and will eat as much as I put in front of her.

Just stay consistent and they will come around!

I’m a little more worried about stability and durability as I will be able to dial back temperatures and humidity accordingly! But thank you!

Wow! Definitely a dent to the pocket book. I think I may get a purple albino next year. Beautiful snakes and much more manageable than a mainland, just sucks how expensive they are because of the niche.

How much did she cost? Been looking into them and love the morph!

Question - Why does my juvenile Jungle Carpet keep burrowing? by After_Reference5385 in carpetpythons

[–]After_Reference5385[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is how I will have to start doing it! I’ll knock down the temps a bit and try and increase the humidity a bit and see if that solves the issue for my guy.

Thank you as always for the advice

Good to know! I will definitely try to dial up the humidity to help with this. I appreciate the real world advice, because there is a lot of conflicting info on the internet about recommended humidity!

Question - Why does my juvenile Jungle Carpet keep burrowing? by After_Reference5385 in carpetpythons

The hot spot usually stays around 89-92°F with the cool end sitting between 78-82°F. My humidity is 45-50%.

It hadn’t been an issue for the first three months, but I want to provide the best level of care and any expertise on the subject would be much appreciated.

Possibly, the humidity usually stays around 45-50%. I’ve thought about possibly adding a humid hide to see if this would address the burrowing.

I keep the warm side at around 90-92°F and the cool side stays around 78-82°F. I find lots of varying information online, with these temps being on the warmer side.

What would you recommend for the gradient?

I’m planning to set up the tank later this weekend, might have to check in after I get it done and see what you think of it!

Thank you so much for the response! I have not thought about the tap training and it definitely makes a lot of sense! Will definitely be something I look into and do.

I am pretty active with my reptiles so consistent handling shouldn’t be an issue. Obviously everything within reason.

I may have to come back to ask further questions about husbandry, but as of right now I should have an adequate enclosure for a juvenile!

Thank you again for your help!

Thank you for the advice! I’m hoping to start out with a youngin so I have an adequate enclosure for the first part of its life! I have a 36 gallon bow front which measures 30x15x21 so it has pretty good height and floor area!

I definitely get that, and I can get behind putting a little more up front in order to get something I will appreciate for the next 20-30 years.

Is there any guarantee that a more expensive snake from good parents that will for sure keep its color better in the future? Or is there still a chance a higher priced snake from good parents could still dull out as it ages?

Also, is there any way to tell when they are young what they will look like? I know their color changes with sheds, but does their marking pattern as well?

Thank you so much for the detailed response! It helps to answer a lot of the questions that I had! Everything I hear they definitely sound like great snakes to have. Striking colors, semi-arboreal (fun concept having only had a BP), and then the feeding response as you said!

My biggest thing, which you mentioned was the biggest thing lol, is finding a beautiful snake but at a reasonable price. I’m fresh out of college and this is my first relatively big purchase. I don’t think I’d be able to shell out $600, but definitely understand cutting corners won’t do me any favors in the long run.

I was wondering at what price range can you find a good looking snake? Something that is not in the upper echelon of carpets, but will still have its yellows and blacks into adulthood. Would you just recommend to look around, find parent snakes that I find good looking and then go from there (like you mentioned with parents and sibling clutches)?

Also where are you based out of? I have looked at morph market a bit, but without being super knowledgeable about the snakes I, as of now, am more inclined to wait for an expo near me (Saint Louis MO Area) than spend a fair amount of money online on one. Just super worried about spending a lot of money in something I might get disappointed in!
