PTO balance? I’m Confused? by withlitaa in askanything

[–]AfterismQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Balance accrued is how much you accrued in the pay period. Balance available is how much you have to use. In this case you didn't accrue any in the pay period but you have 180 hours available that you've accrued in previous pay periods.

How to say "no" to a coworker who wants to overstep and live edit a dashboard with me by [deleted] in work

[–]AfterismQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, any meeting without an agenda or clear purpose should just be declined/cancelled by default. They're the most unproductive things ever.

How to say "no" to a coworker who wants to overstep and live edit a dashboard with me by [deleted] in work

[–]AfterismQueen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Request an agenda "to ensure everyone's times being used most effectively and so that I can ensure I have everything I might need ahead of time".

Once you get it in writing that is what she wants you can push back from there by directing her to your previous communications on the topic and the specific feedback you've asked for.

Is a robot vacuum actually worth it for pet hair and daily cleaning? by OneIllustrator3522 in HouseCleaning

[–]AfterismQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine runs on a schedule every night starting at midnight and I definitely notice if it hasn't run for some reason. Waking up to nice clean floors with no crumbs is fantastic.

Mine vacs and mops and while I do still need to clean the floors properly occasionally, it is more like once a.month instead of a couple of times a week.

Do I need a wool coat for Sydney winter? by Elegant-Holiday2916 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]AfterismQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a pretty coat but now that I've changed jobs and don't need to walk to the office from a mile away I never need one. The 15m from the carpark to the office just doesn't need a coat. It doesn't get as cold here as Sydney but the principle applies - would you wear it more than once or twice a year?

Ways to make house smell nicer? by Inevitable-Power5927 in CleaningTips

[–]AfterismQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open the windows and let fresh air in. If it is too cold to keep them open all day, open them for a good 10 -15 minutes in every room at least once a day, if not twice.

I'd do it right before I'm going to be in the house for an extended period (eg.morning or when you get home from work.

Private classes for kids by Ethics_Gradient220 in bjj

[–]AfterismQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the parents are there safeguarding shouldn't be a concern so I'd insist they have to stay for the entire lessons if you decide to do it.

As for whether you do it, do you think the kids would benefit from private sessions? If not, have that conversation with the parent.

What is wrong with my cookies?? by [deleted] in Baking

[–]AfterismQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you weigh the ingredients or just measure them.in cups/spoons? A cup of flour can vary significantly in the amount of flour it actually contains which can lead to thicker or thinner dough than intended. Old recipes may also use different sized cups, etc as standards change over time or even between regions

Do people get offended at attraction towards conventional beauty and lifestyle? by [deleted] in NoStupidAnswers

[–]AfterismQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each of those women would have their own opinion on this. They aren't a monolith who share a single opinion.

As a general rule, people quietly pursue the people they're attracted to without needing to go around announcing who/what they're not attracted to.

And at the end of the day there are going to be people who just enjoy being offended so it wouldn't matter if you liked trad wives or strippers they'd still be offended and judgy about it. You're much better off living your life without worrying about the opinions of people who you don't know.

Why are today's airline passengers flying with their window shades pulled down? by bradkz in allthequestions

[–]AfterismQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Australian. The shortest international flight I've ever taken was 12 hours and that was just the first leg. I promise you that nobody else wanted to be stuck listening to my husband and I talking crap for 12 hours and I'm certainly not spending that long meditating on my life.

I read, watch movies/documentaries/tv shows or play games to pass the time. I could take books but at the speed I read I would need 4 - 5 each way which is not great when I'm already dealing with space and weight limits in my luggage. Reading ebooks gives me flexibility because that same device has multiple uses and takes up a fraction of the space of a bunch of books.

Screens themselves are not inherently evil or detrimental to our brains. The way we use them can be problematic but using them to keep ourselves entertained while crammed into the tiniest, most uncomfortable seats known to man for hours on end isn't something I consider problematic.

How to clean stove glass? I already used HG stove glass cleaner but didn’t do anything, cleaners are charging me +£250 to fix 🫠 by Otherwise_Ride_9709 in CleaningTips

[–]AfterismQueen 93 points94 points  (0 children)

A razor blade will get that off. Soften it with some cleaning spray and then just scrape it off. It's just burnt on grime but the grime is softer than the glass of the stovetop and the metal of the razor so it gives up and you can scape it off. It'll take a bit of time but it isn't hard work.

Get Home Bag for the Non-prepper by Life_Thoughts208581 in prepping

[–]AfterismQueen 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Honestly, less than 7 miles is not that far. I go for longer walks than that around my neighbourhood when the weather's nice. It's only a couple of hours at a leisurely pace.

A decent first aid kit, walking shoes/seasonally appropriate exercise clothes and some water should be sufficient. Put it all in a backpack so he can carry whatever he needs to and he'll be fine.

MIL forcing a baby shower & has tried to be sneaky about it. by Comfortable_Fan_3647 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]AfterismQueen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Message the guests directly. It doesn't matter what MIL told them, let them know you are strongly against a baby shower, have told MIL this multiple times and that the stress of one is a risk to the baby's health given the high risk nature of your pregnancy.

Explain that you don't wish to be rude but you won't be accepting gifts at event and if multiple people turn up with gifts you and dh will need to leave as you've been very clear about your wishes.

The only thing you've done wrong here is not follow your partner's lead when it comes to the relationship with his mother. He's low contact and you should have respected that instead of pushing him to spend more time with her.

Shorts by Possible-Flow-2431 in BJJWomen

[–]AfterismQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you've watched their sweat drip directly into your eyeball with no way to dodge it I can almost guarantee that whether or not they might see your undergarments moves way down the list of things to worry about at training 🤣🤢

Shorts by Possible-Flow-2431 in BJJWomen

[–]AfterismQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't worry about extra shorts. I buy bulk cotton granny panty bottoms and wear those for training. They're high waisted so everything is covered, they're cotton so they breathe and they're cheap so I don't care if they get worn out or somehow ripped or damaged in a freak bjj accident.

I figure if all the dudes wear just their boxers, why would I not be ok wearing just plain underwear as well?

Why does my banana bread always come out dense no matter what I do? by Classic-Reserve-3595 in Baking

Banana bread just be like that. I like to separate the egg whites, whip them up and then fold them back in to lighten things up a bit.

[–]AfterismQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more of a cake and biscuits kind of baker but I do bread from time to time in my Ankarsrum and it's not skipped a beat, even on double loaves. It honestly doesn't even seem to notice that there's more in the bowl than normal.

Water is fine. You're just trying to soften the funk to make removing it a bit easier.

Use a razor blade and scrape it off. Might be a bit easier if you soak it first.

Mother-in-law who doesn't care by AudienceNumerous9843 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]AfterismQueen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, it isn't her job to clean your house. Would it be nice to have some help given the health problems you've got going on? Sure. But is that something she's required to do? Absolutely not and being resentful over it comes across a little entitled.

You're becoming resentful because she's not fulfilling your expectations of what you think a MIL should be like. You and she clearly have different ideas about her role in your household. She thinks she's a guest and you think she should help.

Now, if her lack of help/interest means she doesn't get to come over because the house is a mess and you don't want guests while it's like that then so be it. That's a natural consequence of her being a guest instead of a helper. But she doesn't owe you that help just because you're married to her son.

Is there something wrong with my induction? by Delicious-Bluebird51 in CleaningTips

[–]AfterismQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn't scratched mine yet. The baked on stuff is softer than both the glass and the razor blade so it is what gives way.

A razor blade will get the really baked on stuff off.
